DuskClan | Bird Song Trees

Not too far west of the camp and nestled against the cliffs is a group of trees the Clan has named the Bird Song Trees, after the 'legend' of one of old CloudClan's earliest members. This is because no matter the season or the time of day there will always be birds in the trees, often attracted by the fruit they bear. The low-hanging branches of the small birches, oaks, pines, cherries, apples, and maples allow cats to climb them easily, and the ground has plenty of small mammals to hunt too.

Ebonyrose padded cautiously across the forest floor, testing the ground before each step to ensure it was stable. The soft grass and flowers poking out of the earth appeared untouched by the quake, though the cliffs looked more ragged than she remembered.

Softecho glanced nervously towards the cliffs, shifting on her paws and looking back toward Ebonyrose. "We should probably hurry," she meowed, tail-tip twitching.

Riverswoop's whiskers twitched. "If they expected us to hurry then they'd expect us not to come back." He stayed close to the trees, trusting the roots to hold the earth together.

Ebonyrose nodded an agreement. "We're no use trapped under the earth," she echoed. The sight of a poppy patch growing from the rocks at the foot of a cliff caught her eye. "There." she mewed.

Softecho made her way carefully over to the patch of poppies. "He said to ignore the flowers, right?" She glanced back toward Riverswoop and Ebonyrose.

Riverswoop nodded, looking cautiously at the cliffs hanging above them. "I'll keep watch," he suggested, trying to lighten this new dread in his stomach.

Ebonyrose nodded. "I've helped pick poppy seeds before," she mewed softly, sniffing among the stalks. Her nose touched a crinkly seed pod and she gently nipped the stalk and held it between her jaws, looking back to Softecho.

Softecho watched closely, then moved to copy Ebonyrose. She nipped the stalk of a seed pod and carefully stepped back, lifting her head again. She didn't know how much Coldfoot would need.

Riverswoop's ears pricked as he heard the very clear chipping of stones as they clinked together and landed not too far from the group. "Grab two each," he mewed, not realising that his fur was already on end.

Ebonyrose nodded, grabbing another seed pod. She began to relax as she realized the ground under her was stable.

Basilpaw searched the tree bases, looking for easy moss. Finding a good amount on a fallen tree, he clawed some off into a ball and held it under his chin. He noticed the other cats gathering poppy seeds, and felt somewhat at ease for the older cats nearby. However, Basilpaw had to be quick. He had to soak the moss, but the only puddle nearby was frozen. So, he headed out to the Bottomless Pool.

Softecho had grabbed a second seed pod by the time Ebonyrose said it should be enough. She nodded lightly, turning to head back to their makeshift camp.

Riverswoop rolled his eyes, taking his time to grab his own pods. If I came back empty pawed Coldfoot would have my tail, he thought to himself.
