Hawkstep trekked forward with heavy breaths, turning his head every few minutes to check on Brindlestripe.
Melodykit watched the rain falling with awe.

Cricketsong padded towards the front of the group, hissing inwardly and pressing her ears down at the rain.

Brindlestripe followed behind her mate, panting. Her pelt was slick with water that chilled her to the bone. She was exhausted, but had to keep going. "Hawkstep," she puffed. "How are you doing?"

Finchstar ignored the medicine cat, looking downriver as far as he could see. "It looks like DuskClan is underwater," he mewed. "Same with WaterClan."

Poolstar reached the river soon after Finchstar's statement, her blue-grey fur soaked through with the rain. She peered over, chest heaving and relief flooding through her. "Finchstar!" She called, Risingscorch stopping beside her.

Fernpaw trudged along behind the group, gazing emptily at the sky. The ceaseless downpour gave him no rest as it weighed down his pelt and fogged up his mind. He halted as they came to the edge, peering through the bushes to get a look downstream.

"Poolstar!" Finchstar brightened immediately. "I'm sorry we're on your territory."
Hailfeather, his usually fluffy fur plastered to his back, looked over the ragtag group. FireClan and BrightClan!

"In such a situation, Finchstar, I don't mind. I'm glad to see some of your clan and BrightClan survived. We met up with DuskClan and WaterClan earlier. Both they, and the rest of my surviving clanmates are at the Mooncave." Poolstar looked over the shaken cats, her heart going out for each of them. She sighed softly. "We need to get you all there," she meowed.

Finchstar dipped his head in gratitude, turning to Stagshade. "Do any of your queens need cats to carry their kits?"

Stagshade scanned over the cats following him. "Does anyone need help carrying kits?" he called.
Flamepaw nudged Cedarpaw "Hey, they could help carry you," he joked weakly.

Tanglepath regarded Poolstar with suspicion but said nothing.
Martenstrike looked to Littledawn. "Do you need help with the kits?" he mumbled.

Hailfeather took initiative and padded over to the only queen he could see, Littledawn, and dipped his head in greeting. "I'm Hailfeather."

Littledawn looked between Havenkit and Melodykit, holding out the she-kit to the FrostClan warrior. "Littledawn," she answered, muffled somewhat by her daughter's scruff.

Timberblaze cautiously handed Havenkit over to Risingscorch once the tom approached, stepping back after.

"We should get going. The rain is only going to worsen and we don't want to be out in it for long. Not with kits," Poolstar mewed gently and waved her tail. "We have other medicine cats back at the Mooncave who can assess any injuries."

Tanglepath watched Poolstar wearily. I wonder how many of the other medicine cats survived.
Martenstrike growled softly as Risingscorch took Havenkit, hackles bristling.

Stagshade nodded. "BrightClan, let's go," he called.

Littledawn pressed her side to Martenstrike's and let out a soothing purr. "He's just carrying him. He'll be fine," she reassured, flicking her ears.

Nightbrook happily began moving again, following after Stagshade with Rowanscar in tow. The thought of being able to curl up and sleep was beyond appealing.

Poolstar turned and began to slowly lead the group of cats to the Mooncave, amber eyes peering through the rain.

Finchstar flicked his tail, motioning his cats to follow.

Cedarpaw smacked his brother lightly, still panting. "Not..." huff. "Funny!" He hissed, but drew himself back to stand to follow Finchstar. Though, he did end up leaning against Opalfrost when he stumbled.

Nightbrook looked back at the two apprentices, heart aching for them. They had lost both their parents and their brothers all in one day. She shook her head softly and looked forward again.

Poolstar slowed to walk beside Finchstar and Stagshade. "We saw the smoke from the volcano," she admitted softly while glancing toward the young leader.

Finchstar nodded. "It wasn't an eruption," he mewed softly. "I... I've never seen something so horrible. There was mud everywhere, the camp cracked in half..." He shook his head.

"We got another avalanche. One of the queens, Frostflower, didn't make it and her kits aren't even a day old. My deputy, Lupinfrost.. his expecting mate, Silverwind..." Poolstar choked up, swallowing against the lump in her throat. She shook her head in dismay.

"How have the other two Clans fared? DuskClan and WaterClan, are there many survivors?" Tanglepath asked.

Martenstrike looked suspiciously at the FrostClan cats. "Do you really trust them with your kits?" he asked Littledawn.

"They've given me no reason to not trust them. In such hard times... A little trust goes a long way," Littledawn mewed, though her glancing toward her kits gave away her worry.

"All three of WaterClan's medicine cats survived, and some kits did as well. But everyone's numbers are horribly low.." Poolstar shook her head with a sigh, ears flat. "Robinstar survived, but Turtlestar didn't make it. I haven't done any type of count to figure out who all survived, but I know a good few of DuskClan's apprentices did."

Martenstrike snorted, keeping his eye on the cats carrying Littledawn's kits.

Tanglepath nodded. "I was worrying about our medicine cat situation, but that seems manageable," he mewed, "All of us together should be able to look over everyone and make sure no one obtained any life threatening injuries."

"We're going to have to figure out some way to feed everyone," Stagshade sighed.

"Three of the territories are under water, and even if they weren't, the quakes would've scared everything away. I think the least damaged territory is ours, and we had a hard time hunting even before our camp was crushed by boulders." Poolstar glared at the ground, as if it was the thing that had taken her clan from her. "Any prey we managed to catch is either crushed or stuck behind all the rocks," she admitted, sighing.

Littledawn's stomach chose that moment to growl, loudly. Her ears flattened and she glanced down at her paws sheepishly while Nightbrook sent her a look of pity.

"We're going to have to move past the quake's range if we want to find food," Tanglepath mused.

"The EchoClan and StormClan cats who joined us came from upriver," Stagshade mewed, "Perhaps we could start there?"

Hailfeather's ear flicked at Martenstrike's words but he stayed quiet, if only for the drowsy kit in his jaws.

Finchstar tilted his head. "That might be a good place to start. But we can't travel along the river, the path doesn't go any further from the Mooncave. And it looks like DuskClan is mostly underwater."

Finchstar flicked his ear. "I'm aware the water doesn't spread forever," he mewed a little curtly. "I just don't want to risk my cats getting injured any more than they already are."

"We should be able to," Poolstar agreed, glancing back to the group of cats following them. "But it's risky with so many young cats. We should see if SoulClan says anything tonight."
