BrightClan | Eastern Territory: The Moorlands

BrightClan's moorlands take up most of their territory, a range of rolling, tussock hills with plenty of small bushes and trees. Most of these shelter herbs underneath them, and the soil is nourishing from the volcanic eruptions of old.
The eastern part of the moorlands is higher and a little drier than the lower sea-blasted area, with taller hills able to shelter the camp.
Most of the prey found here are rabbits and hares, with hawks on the lookout almost all the time, and the occasional lost squirrel or mouse from FireClan's forests nearer to the borders.

Petrelflight trotted out on the moorland, blinking slowly as she took in the rays of sunlight breaking over the horizon.

Nightbrook paused beside Petrelflight and drew in a deep breath. She looked toward the horizon and purred. "Pretty, isn't it?"

She nodded. "I couldn't imagine living under the trees, not being able to see the sky," she sighed. The scent of a rabbit caught her attention and she drew her focus to the warren entrance at the foot of the hill.

"I can't either." Nightbrook shook her head, then followed Petrelflight's gaze and tilted her head. "What do you suggest?" She questioned, jutting her chin to the warren entrance.

"They should be coming out to graze soon," she mewed, "We have to wait until they get far enough from the warren that they can't escape easily." A rabbit poked its nose out of the warren, nose wiggling.

Nightbrook nodded and lowered herself in a casual crouch, green eyes trained onto the wiggling nose of the rabbit.

The rabbit hopped further outside the warren, another rabbit following behind it.

When the ground had began to shake, the rabbits darted back into their warren, much to the disdain of Nightbrook. She shrank closer to Petrelflight, claws sinking into the earth.

Petrelflight shrunk closer to her friend, digging her claws into the earth and watching the rabbit burrow collapse on itself.

Nightbrook's eyes widened, and she struggled to stay in place. "Should we dig them out?" She questioned when the quaking began to subside, blinking green eyes.

Petrelflight nodded. "We can see if any of them suffocated in the collapse," she mewed, "Easier than chasing them down."

"Just be careful," Nightbrook mewed, padding over on careful paws to the collapsed warren. "If they're still alive, we can catch them before they run, in theory?"

"They'll probably be frazzled by the quake," Petrelflight mewed, scooping the earth to clear the entrance to the burrow. She sniffed at the body of a young rabbit that had been crushed by the falling rubble and dragged it out of the burrow.

Nightbrook nodded and began to carefully dig through the earth, picking up the second rabbit that had been close to the entrance. "How many do you think were in there?"

"Dunno, seems like this was a warren entrance," Petrelflight mewed, "Hopefully the whole thing didn't collapse or we'll be starving soon."

"I really hope that's not the case," Nightbrook mewed and shook her head. "We should get these two back to camp." She grabbed the scruff of the rabbit she'd pulled free, turning to start walking back.

Petrelflight nodded, grabbing her rabbits and trotting after her.
