Longpaw nodded and bounded out of the medicine den. He grabbed a mouse from the fresh-kill pile and padded back to Soraflight. "Here you are!" he mewed, pushing the prey to his fellow medicine cat with his nose.

"Why, thank you!" Soraflight mewed, giving the apprentice a friendly nudge and picking up the mouse in her jaws, swallowing it in a moment. Her belly felt warm at the arrival of food and she felt her hunger return in full force, flinching. I have to eat more. she reminded herself, I wish we had more food.

Dapplestar growled impatiently, turning to Redstar. "Perhaps we should just begin the meeting now and wait for Sandstar. Meet me in my den." she hissed, whipping back around trotting to the tallcave.

Redstar bristled at Dapplestar's words, but followed her into the TallCave. What in SoulClan is taking Sandstar so long? she thought, growling softly.

"I want, if possible," Dapplestar started, sitting down on her nest and turning back to face Redstar. "To minimize losses on both sides. It's leaf-bare, we need as many able warriors as possible. My plan is we get a few hostages from their side and negotiate. If they comply, everyone goes home happy."

"No, I'm proposing WaterClan camp." Dapplestar mewed, flicking her tail. "Less likely to escape or be invaded there." she sighed, "As much as I wish a battle could solve all this, we cannot take a path of dignity in times like these."

Graytail nodded, letting Longpaw take over in the conversation and quickly feeling a stab of pity for Fireclan as he noticed their lack of food. "Well, pushing that to a side, will you be going to the mooncave? It's coming up soon and I overheard some medicine cats talking about it at the gathering." He explained.

Thornsplash slipped into camp a nd sighed in relief as they finally arrived back, she quickly stood aside, waiting for Sandstar and his warriors to enter.

Cloverlily welcomed Thornsplash and the WaterClan patrol into camp, as she was standing guard at the entrance. "Dapplestar and Redstar are waiting for you," she mewed to Sandstar. "They're in the TallCave over there." she said with a flick of her tail in the direction of the meeting place.

Redstar nodded slowly. "I don't think Sandstar would do such a thing," she meowed. "He's a softie; he probably won't stoop low enough to keep prisoners, especially in his own camp."

Sandstar dipped his head in thanks to Cloverlily and Thornsplash. "Thank you." He said. He walked over and signaled for his warriors to follow.

Dapplestar saw Sandstar and stood to greet him. "Leave your warriors outside." she grumbled, "This needs to be private between us three."

"It is really important you came, you are key to our plan." Dapplestar mewed, leading Sandstar into the den. "We need to warn off BrightClan and DuskClan without losing anyone. And I have a plan, but we'll need your camp."

"My camp?" He asked as he followed Dapplestar in. His voice was part surprised and part demanding. "What for?"

"I've been thinking since the last gathering, it's the only way to make sure no one gets hurt." Dapplestar explained. "We capture a cat or two from them and keep them prisoner in your camp. Any attempts to rescue them will be thwarted, the thin ice over the water wouldn't be enough to hold their weight. We tell them that if they want their prisoners back, they negotiate with us. We have the upper paw since we have their hostages. They know what we can do together, they don't threaten our treaty. Everything goes back to normal and they stay on their land."

Sandstar nodded, considering the option. "But what about my warriors? Can we trust the prisoners with the kits?" He asked. "We also need most of our warriors out fighting, patrolling, and hunting." He said. But Dapplestar's got a point. They couldn't escape WaterClan camp! He thought.

"I'm sure not too short of warriors to have all of them out at all times." Dapplestar snorted, "And the queens are surely capable of keeping an eye on their own kits."

Sandstar nodded again. "I guess you are right, Dapplestar." He said. He sighed. "Though I'd rather not, I will do it for the sake of our clans." He said, looking at Redstar as well as Dapplestar.

Dapplestar dipped her head. "I'm glad we've reached an agreement." she mewed. "Now we just need a way to get them without risking lives. I was thinking we could lead them into the tunnels and surround them, but I want to know if either of you have ideas."

Redstar lashed her tail with satisfaction. "I'm not sure how we could do it," she chimed in, "However, we could keep prisoners from smaller patrols on the BrightClan and DuskClan borders. We can't just snatch two or three cats from a large border patrol of six cats and have the remaining go off and tell their leaders." she suggested, not wanting to bring up the fact that this work might all be dumped onto WaterClan; it would be too risky to bring warriors from other Clans into Sandstar's territory.

Lynxfang stretched in relief as he walked into the camp, huffing a little as he saw the amount of strangers. They could beat us if they wanted to.

Tawnyfrost glanced up as the WaterClan cats milled about a little, waving his tail for them to join the group. Rubblewind glanced at Rainstorm, asking whether they should go over.

Rainstorm nodded to him, smiling nervously at the strangers. Suddenly, someone caught her eye.
Birchstripe looked around awkwardly, then saw someone...familiar. My sister? Rainstorm?!? She turned to look in his direction and they locked eyes.

Turtlesplash looked suspiciously at the Tallcave. What if this is a trick? She carefully trotted to the entrance of the cave, then ducked to the side out of view of anyone looking out.

Marshfeather looked around for Cloverlily.

Fennelstrike trotted up to Lynxfang. "I don't like this." he muttered.
Owlstripe approached the other two groups confidently, strutting his stuff.

Thornsplash padded over to where Cloverlily was and sat down, keeping her gaze sharp on the two groups in case of any suspicious movements. "How did your patrol go? Ours was a bit...challenging." She meowed, casting a glance at the Waterclan cats.

Twistedleg flicked his tail, I might as well go see Graytail... He thought to himself as he limped over, completely ignoring the wary looks from the Frostclan cats and flattened his ears, "Keep staring and I'll murder you with my frightening leg abilities." He snapped sarcastically before limping into the medicine cat's den.

Graytail dipped his head, "Greetings, Twistedleg. Seems like we've got ourselves a little meeting already." He chuckled in a friendly way.

Twistedleg flicked his tail in acknowledgement of Falconpaw's presence, not wanting to spark up a conversation with an irrational Frostclan apprentice.

Graytail only shrugged it off, knowing the tom wasn't the brightest one in the land. He awkwardly shifted his paws, not knowing what to do, "Will you both be going to the mooncave?" He questioned .

Twistedleg only snorted, "What's the use? Nobody's been arriving for a while and Soulclan seems to be having a party right now." He grumbled.

Tawnyfrost looked between Birchstripe and Rainstorm, a little confused.

Twistedleg's gaze flickered over to the hurt apprentice and felt a stab of guilt in his heart, but quickly turned to face away from him. Who cares, we're only allies with the clan right now and I have other things to worry about at the moment..He thought, trying to find excuses.

Graytail frowned at the sudden dismissal the Waterclan tom had given and flicked his ear, not really knowing what to do, he quickly started a new subject, "You've gotten a new apprentice, correct?" He quickly questioned, "Maybe Falconpaw can meet him/her at the mooncave gathering?" He suggested, hoping this wouldn't remind Twistedleg of his former, dead apprentice, Cypresspaw.

Sandstar nodded. "We shouldn't take just any warriors. We should take the senior warriors if we have the chance. They are worth more than the others." He suggested.

"Yes." Dapplestar mewed with a nod, "I'd prefer the prisoner as unharmed as possible to avoid more conflict with our enemies."

Rainstorm rushed through the group and stood face to face with Birchstripe, her face taut and angry. Birchstripe shrunk away from her. "Long time no see sis?" he offered nervously.

Marshfeather trotted in Cloverlily's direction subtly.

Owlstripe stood, shoulders high and ears perked, looking at Gingerwolf. Here's your chance. Here's your chance to make an impression on another Clan. "Hello." he said, his voice bold.

Soraflight gave the apprentice a friendly nudge. "I'll go to the meeting." she promised, seeing his downcast face.

Cloverlily's heart pounded when she realized Marshfeather was there. She bounded up to him and gave him a quick lick over the ear. "Marshfeather!" she whispered, burying her nose into his pelt. "I haven't seen you in so long."

Longpaw followed Falconpaw with dismay at the rude WaterClan medicine cat. He shot a glance back at Twistedleg and frowned, flattening his ears against his head. He wasn't sure what to say to his friend, so he just rested his head on Falconpaw's shoulder and smiled, trying to cheer him up.

Mousepaw's face lit up. "Hey! Oakpaw, right?"

Mousepaw paused a moment, blinking thoughtfully. "Well, I'm eleven moons old, and Bluetail says I'll be a warrior soon." He explained. "I want my warrior name to be Mouseleap or something cool like that, but anything is fine really!" he explained, his tail curling in with excitement. "If I make a good impression here... I don't know but maybe they'll have my ceremony when we get back to camp!" He said, smiling.

Mousepaw felt hot with embarrassment as he remembered rambling the words like it was nothing. "Ack! I always make mistakes!" He quickly brushed the fur on his shoulders so they wouldn't bristle. "I meant when you go back. Sorry."

Rainstorm sighed and padded back to Rubblewind's side. Birchstripe sat defeated with the rest of the FireClan patrol.

"That sounds like it could work." Dapplestar mewed, dipping her head. "I'm glad I was able to work with you both. Collect your senior warriors and have them meet outside camp." The silver she-cat rose to her paws and padded out into camp to notify her senior warriors.
