Leapingwillow sat down to rest. She was exausted and cold, and would need to catch up with Pumpkinpaw if she got ahead.

Pumpkinpaw trembled as a cold breeze caught in her throat, and as she ran she tripped on an abandoned twig, falling onto a soft, warm rock. She purred, seeing she had scared away a mouse. She shot after it, eventually stopping in front of a hole as it scurried down. She smiled at a squirrel and leaped, scrambling frantically up the tree and nipping it in the neck, killing it. She brought it back to her mentor, still wondering if there would be any herbs here. They were uncommon, and probably none would be there through this season.

Leapingwillow smiled as Pumpkinpaw hunted. She was turning into a fine hunter.

She may have been a former medicine cat apprentice, but her warrior skills were now sharp. She dug her claws into a rock and scrambled up, flopping over the somewhat sharp ledge and sunbathing.
"I want to enjoy this beautiful weather as much as I can!" she mewed, blinking sleepily as she watched her prey gathered underneath a small elderberry bush.

Leapingwillow jumped up. "Yeah!" She scented the air for prey and found lapwing hopping on the ground. She crouched, ready to pounce.

Pumpkinpaw rolled her eyes at Leapingwillow and got up, dusting out her fur and catching up. She spotted an eagle carcass a little further away. She trailed after it, brushing against some warm and soft stones in the clearing. She sniffed it, and it still smelled fresh. She turned around reluctantly.
"Hey, Leapingwillow, come here!" she called, flicking her tail.

Leapingwillow left her lapwing to live and came. "Wow! That smels like crow-food!" She wrinkled her nose against the stink.

BIC: Pumpkinpaw rolled her eyes and tugged Leapingwillow's tail.
"No, it's fresh! Smell it more down here!" she motioned with her angled ears towards the bottom of the carcass.

Ic: "Oh!" Leapingwillow was surprised at the find. "I guess you win! Now how will we get all the prey back to camp?"

"Wait," Pumpkinpaw halted, rushing back to the eagle.
She sniffed it firmly and felt it's head, seeing it was still warm.
"It smells like a loner or rogue!" she exclaimed, flattening her ears and flexing her claws into the soft soil underneath her.

Leapingwillow froze. "Yeah, and it's fresh!" She widened her eyes. "The prey!" She bolted bacck to the prey pile they made, and relaxed when none was gone.

Pumpkinpaw widened her eyes, but relaxed when Leapingwillow returned with a sigh of relief.
"Maybe we could leave some of our prey in a signature spot and come back to see if it's still there tomorrow! We should still take this eagle." she mewed, lashing her tail in excitement to fight a rogue if they found one.

"And I'll leave this magpie on one of the warm, soft rocks." Pumpkinpaw concluded, picking up the eagle carcass and dragging it back to camp, along with the rest of her medium-sized prey curled against her strong tail.

Leapingwillow left the rabbit under a bush, where it would be seeable. She grabbed her prey, and staggered to camp.

Pumpkinpaw rested her magpie gently on a warm rock and watched it as she padded back, following her mentor reluctantly.

Leapingwillow arrived, panting. She waited for Pumpkinpaw, arranging herself to look casual. She started grooming, keeping an eye open for Pumpkinpaw.

Pumpkinpaw dragged herself along. She had tripped over a heap of snow and scratched her leg on her way over the hills to reach her mentor, and now her minor scar was trickling blood. She pushed the sharp pain away and looked around, still remembering the surroundings of where she had found the carcass.
"It's still there. Maybe we should wait for tomorrow." she mewed, somewhat disappointed.

Pumpkinpaw shrugged a shoulder, although the wound extremely itched.
"It's nothing, I just tripped...." she reassured her mentor.

Leapingwillow smiled. Raindrops started falling from the cloudy, cold sky. She looked at the food, which was now getting wet. "The food's a lost cause... Now let's get under that rock!" Leapingwillow bounded underneath an overhanging rock. She beckoned her apprentice.

IC: Pumpkinpaw watched the snow with awe as she dropped behind a rock and pulled the carcass underneath.

Ooc: It rains a lot during winter, even in Ohio, which is not very... Southy?? I dunno what to call it.

Ic: Leapingwillow shivered even though she wasn't wet. The cold bit through her fur like a big dog.
