DuskClan's Bird Song Trees

Grasspaw turned back to look at Finchflight. She saw a dog's snarling face replacing beautiful Finchflight's, and she pressed herself against the tree as the warrior walked closer and closer to her. She blinked again and her majestic face was back.
"Nothing," she narrowed her eyebrows, watching only her paws as they shivered.
She had only just noticed that Boulderpaw wasn't there yet.

Finchflight murmured something under her breath. "What happened, really? Why did you look at me like that? Is something wrong?" Finchflight felt a wave of concern.

Grasspaw didn't look up, she didn't want to risk seeing another scary figure.
"Your face turned into a dog's, and-and, there was a cougar running through the sky, straight at me." she explained, nearly silently.

Finchflight widened her eyes. Her face, as a dog's face, would be bad enough. She nudged Grasspaw. "It's ok. There wasn't really a dog, or a cougar."

Ferretpaw padded to Grasspaw and mewed "Hey, it's all fine! There's nothing to worry about." with a reassuring voice.

Grasspaw looked up, wincing. She saw no hallucinations and she got up, dusting off her fur and blinking.
"O-okay." she nodded, dashing around the tree and scenting the air for any birds around the area.

"Good idea! We should hunt!" Finchflight smiled at Grasspaw.

Boulderpaw limped up the hill after tripping over a small stick and cutting his paw. "Who won?" he asked, firmly putting his paw down and wincing slightly.

"Me!" Finchflight did not notice Boulderpaw's wince. She smiled and puffed out her chest in triumph.

"Hey, I'm the one who won! I got here first, " yelped Ferretpaw with pride in her gaze. Her pride quickly turned to worry when she noticed Boulderpaws limping. She ran over to the other apprentice and mewed "Golly! Are you okay?"

Finchflight noticed Boulderpaw limping too. "What happened?"

Grasspaw, after returning with a lapwing in her jaws, dropped it and ran to Boulderpaw.
"Are you okay, broseph?" she held in a giggle; they would always call each other that before, broseph and sistreph, but she didn't want her giggle to seem rude since he was hurt.

"Yeah, a cut my paw on a branch on the way here..."

Grasspaw sighed in relief. It wasn't too big, so she took Boulderpaw's paw and rubbed it with her own, hoping the contact would burn it and then make it feel a little better.

"Maybe we should go back..." mewed Ferretpaw. "We should have a medicine cat take a look at it." she continued.

Grasspaw shrugged, always knowing what her brother was thinking.
"I'm sure it's fine." she mewed, wanting to keep hunting.
As if on cue, she glanced at her lapwing laying limp under a tree.

"It's fine." Boulderpaw mewed. He winked at Grasspaw, and bounded forwards, taking her lapwing in his mouth. "Can't catch meeee!" he yowled, playfully, running around.

"No!" Grasspaw mewled, bounding after him and yelping as she bowled him over playfully, snatching her lapwing back.

Boulderpaw battered at Grasspaw playfully. "Play Clan?" he whispered, winking.

"No, we've gotta hunt!" she whined, already seeing a small sparrow pecking at a seed a few mouse-lengths away.
She leaped off of Boulderpaw, crawling towards it. She pounced, but missed it by a second.
"Dang, I've gotta plan my timing more better!" she babbled on, flattening her ears.

"Alright." Boulderpaw mewed, used to this. He started stalking a bird next to a tree. Pouncing, he missed, but scrabbled around and caught it with his claw.

Finchflight purred at the apprentices. "Great catch!" She congratulated Bouderpaw on his almost missed catch. "That'll be good, since leaf-bare is coming, we need the prey. She, too leapt up and caught a starling out of the air.

"I'm gonna go back guys," Ferretpaw mewed. "I'd like to hunt but I remember I had to pick moss for the elders. " She added with a sad look.

Grasspaw frowned.
"Oh well. Bye now, Ferretpaw!" she flattened her ears, scenting for a bird.

Ferretpaw waved her tail in goodbye and ran off.

Finchflight watched him go. "Well, we'd better hunt. The birds will be taking advantage of the warmth!"

"Yeah." Boulderpaw agreed, putting his birdy down to start a new pile while they were hunting.

Finchflight put the starling down in the pile. She scented the air for another bird, stilling her tail. Then she remembered. "I gotta go!" Finchflight pelted back to camp, her pelt ruffled in excitement.

Grasspaw watched Finchflight go. She shrugged and bumped shoulders with her brother.
"Hey, let's make this interesting!" she stated, separating her own prey into a different pile than the rest.
"Let's have a hunting contest! Loser has to roll in mouse bile when we get back to camp." she flicked her ears, already raking her claws across the grass and ready to tear after some birds.

"Sure." Boulderpaw grinned, moving his prey.

Grasspaw tore after a finch that was pecking at a nut on the ground, but like always she missed it with her loudly romping paws. It saw her and tried to fly off, but it couldn't. She approached it more slowly, seeing it's wing was broken. She stifled a scream of fear as she patted the finch. She put it on her shoulder and climbed one of the trees, seeing it had also strayed from it's mother and siblings. She hesitantly placed it back into it's nest and scrambled back down, sighing. She looked around for something else, and saw a measly mouse circling the same tree. Where had it come from? She shrugged and pounced, killing it with a quick nip to the neck. She strutted back and dropped it in her pile, the mouse's fur gently standing out from all of her birds of prey she had caught earlier.

Boulderpaw quietly stalked a squirrel that was climbing a tree. He jumped into the air and headbutted it awkwardly, sending it running off in fear. "Oops." he muttered, starting to stalk a bird.

Grasspaw saw a small, bright-coloured creature cornering a warm boulder. She approached it on steady paws and saw a beautiful kingfisher. But, as she tore after it, the dog's face that she had seen earlier propped itself on the kingfisher, glaring at the small, weak apprentice. She whimpered like a crying birdling for it's mother, pressing herself against a tree trunk. The kingfisher flew away, the dog's face disappearing.

"Grasspaw?" Boulderpaw mewed anxiously, padding over.

OOC: CHAT

Grasspaw shook her head clear of the thoughts, settling down.
"Maybe we should stop and bring this all back." she mewed, nearly silent.

"Okay..." Boulderpaw mewed.

Grasspaw got up, shook out her fur, and began prodding her pile of prey slowly back to camp.

Boulderpaw picked up his pile of prey, wrapped his tail around his sister, and followed her to camp.
