Patchstep and Seapaw found a patch of grass that would make a suitable temporary nest. They made themselves comfortable and, ignoring the noise of the cats that remained awake, fell into a light sleep.

Silverpool looked at a small cave. "Strange." she thought to herself. She padded in. Rainstorm went after her. When she was at the end of the secret tunnel, she was outside. "I'd better tell Rainspirit!" she thought. Before she could leave, a large fox leaped onto her. She let out a muffled squeak before the fox killed her. Rainstorm stood at the entrence, watching in terror. She raced back to camp.

Patchstep and Seapaw woke with a start. "Ugh!" muttered Seapaw. "Can't a cat get any rest around here?"

Patchstep slapped his tail tip over her mouth, glaring. "Stay here and be quiet. I'll be right back." Seapaw nodded mutely, and Patchstep hurried off to see what had happened.

"We found a small crack in the cave, so Silverpool went through to see where it lead." panted Rainstorm, "When I came out, I saw a large fox grabbing her! Then it ran away, howling something. I think there are more, and that we'll need to cover the entrance."

Avianpaw nodded. "I helped my mother give birth to my little sisters." she said, her eyes clouding a bit at the memory of her mother's death on the thuinderpath. she tilted an ear to Wolfheart's belly.

Avianpaw licked the second kit and when it started breathing she pushed both of the kist slightly away so she would have room to lick te other two kits. "Two mor ei think." she told Wolfheart.
