Finchflight hurried to her patrol. She nodded to Blueshine, and stayed away from the jagged cliffs.

Mintapple skipped happily around the heaps of perfectly fallen snowflakes. He scuttled over some melting slush and cursed to himself before joining Finchflight next to a bush of dripping wet herbs.
"Well this would be a shame to leave them out here like this, only to get ruined!" he exclaimed, beginning to pick out some dry ones and protecting them under his large silver paws.

Finchflight picked up some of the drier ones and then got an idea. "Maybe we could wrap the herbs with moss from that hollow log over there and they would stay dry! Or we could leave them in it and get them when we are leaving."

Mintapple, being the former medicine cat, shook his head.
"No, no, that's too risky. With the amount of wind right now it could blow all the herbs, including the moss, over the ledge. And we're here to hunt, we can't just stuff it in some imaginary pocket, now, can we?" he explained, joking in his tone as he collected the last of the dry herbs.
"One of us could always stay back and keep the herbs safe, though." he shrugged a shoulder, ripping some moss off of the hollow log and wrapping the large piece around the collected cobwebs and coltsfoot.

Finchflight nodded, and brought the rest of the dry herbs to Mintapple. "I'll stay with them."

"Alright, be careful." he called from behind the hollow log as he collected more sticky moss.
He returned with nearly a dozen heaps of moss and a purple flower with white petals shaped like stars. He took the stem of the flower and squirted over one of the moss a shape looking like a "C". He took all the herbs starting with that letter that he had found so far; cobwebs, coltsfoot, chervil, chamomile, and catmint. He continued on with every known letter and placed the herbs gently into his organized category of moss.

Finchflight sat back, her fur fluffed up. A small breeze blew against her, nearly blowing away a few herbs. She caught them, and put them back.

Mintapple held his breath as the herbs nearly fell over the ledge of the cliffside. He let out a sigh of relief when Finchflight caught them and finished his marking.
"Now, Finchflight, just spread your paws over all of these moss categories. Don't move anything." he instructed, flicking his tail as he bounded to catch up with the hunting patrol.

Mintapple nodded and watched the birds chattering wildly on the nearby bush. He pressed himself to the ground as low as possible and crawled towards them. He saw a mouse scuttling underneath the bush and latched his claws onto it's throat, snapping it's spine and bounding back out. He stuck the mouse underneath a bundle of dry snow, hoping for the best.

Finchflight heard a mouse's heart thumping. She resisted the urge to pounce, she needed to keep the herbs safe.

Blueshine saw the birds in the bush and crouched, her tail lashing wildly, trying to signal the other cats. The chattering inside was starting to increase, and Blueshine felt her heart pounding, urging her to jump now and scatter them all. But she waited for the rest of the patrol to notice.

Finchflight kept the herbs still, shivering from the cold. Her short fur wasn't made for cold weather.

Patchwhisker watched the cats and quickly pounced on one of the birds, giving it a killing nip and padded over to the others. He dug up a hole underneath a rock and stuck the bird in their for now.

Robinblaze watched silently from the shadows, her jaws parted for a scent of prey.

The rest of the birds in the bush took off, creating a black cloud ascending into the sky. Blueshine cursed and sprang into the air, grabbing a bird in her paws, then put it in her mouth and landed carefully on the ground.

Mintapple clicked his tongue and cursed under his breath. What was Patchwhisker doing?
"Don't you see that you need patience?" he meowed, half-jokingly.
He glanced back at Finchflight and nodded at her.

"Beginner's mistake," Blueshine grumbled, setting down the bird she'd caught, "When they're all together like that, anything frightens them and they take off in a swarm."

Mintapple cocked his head respectfully and continued to look around. As he passed by Patchwhisker with parted jaws from scenting any prey, he rumbled an affectionate apology and caught eye of a quail hopping around and into an open log.

Blueshine froze, scenting quail. She looked around. The wind was starting to pick up, giving warning that they should head back soon.

Also, I meant to put that he pounced on one of the birds that was away from the group....

Patchwhisker scented the air for any other prey around.

Robinblaze caught a hawk sitting on a low branch. It swooped down onto the ground, pecking at something. She crept forward in her hunting crouch, signalling for the others to come help with her tail. If we catch this, we probably won't starve.. She thought, her whiskers twitching impatiently for the others.

OOC: That's not how those bird groups work. They're all in a giant, screaming, tight ball in the bush. If you step near, they all scream louder and take flight.
IC: Blueshine saw flicked her ear and glanced at the hawk, her heart pounding. That thing's bigger than I am!

Whats taking them so long? If they won't help me, I'll just do it myself.. She thought, glancing over at them impatiently.

Patchwhisker flatted his ears, "That hawk's pretty big and can give us severe injuries, what do you think Blueshine should we hunt it?" He meowed, turning to the deputy for her opinion.

Mintapple rolled his eyes.
"Just go after it! The prey heap is empty, fluff-brains!" he teased, wincing as the hawk screeched and flapped it's wing, about to take flight again.
Mintapple assumed it's wings were broken; it was barely lifting into the air.

Blueshine noticed its wing seemed limp. It can't take off, the most dangerous bit right now is the talons. She bowled into the hawk's underside, knocking it from the low branch.

The hawk screeched and flapped it's giant wings into Blueshine's face, edning up smacking her hardly.
Robinblaze pounced onto it and raked her claws onto it's wings, trying to force it to stop.

Patchwhisker, seeing that Blueshine pounced in, guessed the answer was a yes. He slashed at the hawk from another angle.

Robinblaze bit into it's feathery neck and her teeth sank it, enjoying the taste of blood once more she started to weigh the hawk down with the help of the rest of the patrol.

Patchwhisker batted at it with unsheathed claws, leaving scratched here and there.

Blueshine climbed onto the hawk's back and bit into its spine. The hawk shrieked in pain and fear.

Mintapple finished it off with a mighty thump on it's side, sending it crashing over a sharp rock. It let out a loud shriek and went limp. The tom's paws were freezing, so he absentmindedly rested his pads on the bird's rough wing.

Blueshine left out a victory yowl. This should be all we need for this patrol! "Let's head back before the storm picks up again!" she called to the hunting patrol.

Mintapple heaved himself up with a sigh and flicked his paw in an abrupt motion at Finchflight.
"We're ready to go!" he called forgetfully to any other member of the patrol that might have trailed off from them.
As he approached Finchflight with the herbs, he slipped on a patch of ice and landed roughly on his back.

Blueshine looked over at Mintapple to make sure he hadn't fallen into the gorge, then grabbed the hawk and started to drag it back to camp.

Mintapple covered his abruptly shouting pain with a gentle laugh as he clamped the small "bags" of herbs he had made and held his tail high as he followed Blueshine.

Robinblaze snatched the other side of the hawk in her jaws to help the travel faster.

Patchwhisker licked his whiskers, "We can use those feathers for the nursery, I noticed earlier it needed new nests." He meowed.
