Hazeldew was a little away from Lightningspark and Vikenpaw and she listened to Vikenpaw's mentor ask a question and Hazeldew listened for an answer.

Lightningspark glanced at Hazeldew, slightly confused as to why the shecat had followed them out, but turned back and nodded to Vixenpaw. "Do you know how to crouch properly?"

Hazeldew nodded as Lightingspark glanced at her, then turned her attention back to Vikenpaw. A faint scent of prey wafted into her nose, but Hazeldew ignored it.

Scorchflame crouched and crept foward the unsuspecting rodent. His hackles low but his belly fur and tail not touching the grass. He stopped as the mouse's ears twitched and looked around. Scorchflame quickly lept and swiped at the mouse killing it. He picked it up in his jaws and muffled "That is an example of hunting!"

Swiftpaw nodded. "So you have to do something like this?" he mewed, dropping into an almost-perfect hunting crouch and stalking forward.

ooc: he's supposed to be a natural at hunting. XD

A small blackbird jumped out from behind a tree, and Swiftpaw immediately froze as he watched it. The bird, distracted by pulling a worm from the ground, didn't notice the apprentice til it was too late, and was already dead before it could make a noise. Swiftpaw picked the bird up and looked at Scorchflame, his tail flicking happily.

Brindlestripe entered the forest with her apprentice, Hawkpaw, following close behind. She signaled with her tail for the young cat to be quiet and listened carefully. To their right, she could hear rustling. "Probably a vole," she whispered. "We are downwind, so it won't smell us. Show me how you think you should catch it." She nodded in the direction of the sound, awaiting to see what hunting potential the apprentice had.

Hawkpaw looked happy as she quickly and quietly made her way in a spot that she thought would be best to attack. She got down into the hunters crouch, though she knew she was a little off centered she made the jump precisely with accuracy only to have the prey under her paws slowly slipping.

"Bite it's throat!" Brindlestripe instructed, purring. She was very pleased with the promise Hawkpaw showed and incredibly proud to be her mentor. "You need to finish it off quickly after catching it. We do not want it to suffer unnecessarily." She trotted up to Hawkpaw.
