FireClan | Southern Territory: The Pine Forest Empty FireClan | Southern Territory: The Pine Forest

FireClan's Pine Forest stretches the length and width of their territory, only giving way to small meadows and the top of the Volcano.
In the Southern area of the forests the ground is sturdier, with less rocks and more undergrowth. Meadows are less frequent as grass grows under the pines without hassle, and herbs are mostly found here, along with plenty of fresh prey but also snakes.

Havenkit skidded to a halt and panted as he tried to catch his breath. He fluffed up his fur, partially wishing he'd brought along his sisters so he wasn't alone. Shrugging instead, he trotted forward, the rustling of leaves putting him on edge. He changed his path quickly, breaking out into a run that turned into him stumbling blindly through the undergrowth.

Havenkit stumbled down a small hill, landing within a bush of thorns. He yowled and squirmed, trying to escape while a crow circled above, swooping down to try and peck at the tom through the thorns. When Havenkit heard Martenstrike, he perked up slightly. "Over here!"

Martenstrike let out an annoyed groan, seeing the crow swooping and following its path. "Don't panic! Just make sure it knows you're alive! Crows usually only eat carrion!" he yowled.

"Leave me alone!" Havenkit cried and smacked at the crow, managing to only work his way deeper into the thorns, whimpering as he did so. The sharp sting of them digging through his fur brought out a hiss from him.

Martenstrike trotted to the thorn bush, examining it for any gaps where he could get in. He squeezed through the branches, careful to avoid the prickly thorns. He reached the kitten and started to untangle the tendrils wrapping around him. "How in SoulClan's name did you even-" he hissed, then stopped abruptly. The sound of thrumming paws and snuffling sounded from outside the bush. A large dog with a speckled black pelt charged through the undergrowth.

"Martenstrike, what is that?" Havenkit had the sense to at least be quiet, watching the dog through the tendrils of the thorn bush. He whimpered and held still, trying to keep from being noticed.

"Dog," Martenstrike hissed, "Stay absolutely still." The dog began snuffling at the base of the thorn bush, ears perking up. The dog plunged into the thorns towards them, jaws hanging open and tongue lolling with excitement.

Martenstrike raced through the tunnels in the thorny undergrowth, straining with the weight of the kit in his jaws. The dog tore through the brambles behind him, not seeming to care about hurting itself on the thorns. He exploded out of the brush and raced towards a hollowed log, scrambling inside, the musty smell of rotted wood filling his nostrils. The dog stuck its snout in the hollow, snuffling and whining.

"I can outrun it!" he snapped. The dog moved, pawing at the bark on the side and splitting through the rotting bark. Before it could make a big enough hole to reach inside, Martenstrike shot out of the log. The dog's head snapped towards him and charged after him.

Martenstrike ducked and weaved through the undergrowth, cursing himself for not thinking further ahead. He spotted a sickly looking tree laying on its side, crossing over a ravine in the ground. Thinking quickly, he turned sharply towards it, hearing the dog scramble to turn after him. He darted over the trunk, feeling its weight bend under him. The dog was a few paced behind him, making the trunk wobble unsteadily. The dog miss stepped and yelped, toppling off the branch and into the shallow ravine below. Martenstrike stopped, looking down. It hadn't fallen far enough to hurt itself, but it was far enough that it wouldn't be able to climb out easily. He let out a relieved sigh and began trotting back to where he had left Havenkit.

"I'm fine," he sighed. Now that the danger had passed his fear for the kit had been replaced with frustration. "What were you doing out of camp? You know you're supposed to stay near the nursery."

Havenkit at least had the tact to look ashamed. He carefully climbed down from his perch and shuffled his paws, ears flattening. "I wanted to explore the territory. Everything is so interesting, and staying by the nursery with Seedkit and Melodykit gets so boring."
