FrostClan | Southern Territory: Lower Forest Empty FrostClan | Southern Territory: Lower Forest

FrostClan's forest takes up the lower land in their territory, with the rest being the exposed face of the Mountain. It is full of trees of many kinds, unlike FireClan's pine-dominated forest, and boasts a large range of prey in turn. The thick undergrowth provides clean and easy hunting for the cats used to it, and can confuse intruders.

Wolfwatcher led his patrol into the forest, looking around. He couldn't smell any prey. He looked back to the other warriors behind him. "If you can find any prey, do your best to catch it. We'll meet back here," his words were crisp with fear, but he didn't let any of that show in his stature. He stalked off into the undergrowth, yellow eyes darting around for any sort of movement in the leaves.

Mottledsting frowned at the deputy's palpable anxiety. He simply nodded in response to the command and trotted off, parting his jaws. The Lower Forest was known for having a good deal of prey, and he depended on that fact, coming out victorious as he caught a fairly fresh scent of pheasants. The young tom purred softly and moved to follow the trail.

Coldcall nodded. He padded through the undergrowth and froze at the smell of a mouse. He saw the smallest movement in the leaf-snow mess and dropped to a crouch, his right foreleg off the ground because of his limp. He couldn't risk his old injury alerting the mouse. The tom crept forwards but stumbled. The mouse darted away, out of sight. "Fox-dung," he muttered, hoping no cat was around to see his mistake.

Wolfwatcher found himself alone. The quiet made him uneasy. He sniffed the air, following the faint scent of a family of squirrels which seemed to be a few tail-lengths further. He crept, dropping down and glaring into the thorn bushes that kept him from his prey. There were three fat squirrels he could see. He built pressure in his back legs and pounced over the bush, stumbling as a thorn caught his stomach. His claw caught that of only one squirrel and he managed to kill it properly before it could wiggle out of his grasp. Wolfwatcher picked it up in his jaw and looked around to see if he could find the other squirrels that had run away.

Coldcall heard a rustle nearby. A plump squirrel dashed out, right into his paws. He brought a forepaw down on the creature, glad to have his lighter fur to blend with the snow. Wolfwatcher's scent drifted over, and Coldcall followed it. He set down his prey. "I got the squirrel you scared off," he mewed. Noticing the squirrel his clanmate had, he added, "Nice catch."

Mottledsting pounced and caught a songbird with his claws, biting into its neck. He stood up straight and glanced around, prey held within his jaws. Should he catch more? FrostClan was a rather big clan, after all. And with so many kits on the way... He dug up some of the cold earth and placed the bird within it, burying it after. A squirrel scurried past him, and he darted after it, catching it smoothly within his claws and killing it.

Glowingstride looked around, tail lightly swaying from side to side. She looked around for any prey, mostly as a habit - she was more focusing on what she could hear or smell. Catching the scent of a mouse, she crouched down and took a few steps forward before dashing and planting her paw on the mouse, nipping at its neck to make sure it was dead before turning back to the other cats in the patrol then down at the mouse, analysing it quickly. It was probably a bit bigger than your average mouse but wasn't really large. Either way, something to be proud of.

Wolfwatcher buried his squirrel and looked up. "We'll hunt a little bit longer, since we haven't really been here very long." He looked down at the injury along his stomach and pressed it lightly, hissing as it stung to the touch. He was sure that he was fine, but he guessed he was going to get Mintsky or Quartzshine to check it out back at camp. He sighed. "What we have right now isn't enough; all the kits coming this winter will be a big problem for us." he mumbled. He padded into the undergrowth and parted his jaw, trying to find any more means of prey in the area.

"Kits nurse for the first two moons though, so we have to worry mainly about the queens," Mottledsting chipped in, padding back with his songbird and squirrel.

Coldcall nodded. "Yeah, we need to get as much prey as we can, before it all disappears for leafbare," he agreed. His sister's new kits would likely be weaned during leafbare, and there would be a panic for prey.

Mottledsting nodded and dug into the earth, dropping his catches into the small hole and burying them after. "There might be some in the trees," he mewed casually, glancing upward. He flexed his claws into the ground, padding over to the base of a tree.

Wolfwatcher nodded at Mottledsting and looked out towards the bushes. "I'll search for some burrows; we might have more luck there." He took a few minutes searching, sniffing the ground like a dog. He came across a small burrow, possibly belonging to a rabbit or gopher. He stuck his nose inside, finding nothing. He could smell another close by, and followed the trail.

Mottledsting had been up in the tree when the quake hit, and was nearly knocked off. His claws had caught the branch and he pulled himself back, clinging to the trunk. When it passed, he slumped and groaned. "Everyone okay?"

Wolfwatcher dug his claws into the grass as the ground jolted, grinding his teeth. "O-Okay. We-" He could faintly hear ominous rumbling in the distance towards camp, making his eyes widen with horror. His breath caught in his throat. "We have to get back. Get your prey!" He called towards the rest of the patrol. He ran over to where he had buried his squirrel and dug it up quickly, a pit growing in his stomach.
