WaterClan's northern portion of the territory is home to their Swampy Forest, an aptly named area of land that contains their swamplands and leafbare hunting areas. Half of the area is watery forest but the other half is high and dry, leaving place for smaller land animals to nest. The forest is filled with birds who take the water prey.

Brindlestorm arrived in the Swampy Forest, having to wade a little bit through the water to get to the land. She stopped to wait for the rest of her patrol, sniffing the air for any scent of prey.

Flowerbrook paused beside the deputy and scented the air, the smell of salt making her shrink back and flatten her ears. "Salt?"

Brookshine, lost in thought, didn't hear Flowerbrook's words until she was standing belly-deep in the water. "Salt!" she mewed, eyes wide as she finally realised what the strange shadows on the water were. "Oh, the fish..."

"Are they dead?" Flowerbrook questioned, despite already being rather certain that they were. She waded deeper into the water, trying not to take in too much of the scent at a time.

Brookshine watched a trout float past her, grimacing. "Certainly smells like it. Something's terribly wrong."

"Well," Flowerbrook leaned down to sniff directly at the water, "This water smelling like salt certainly isn't normal. I could smell it at camp too."

Flowerbrook had only just managed to get out of the water when the quake hit the patrol, and she stumbled, grabbing her apprentice's scruff to pull him closer. It was only a few moments, but it shook worse than the night before, and she remained crouched after it had happened. A large splash of water drenched the rest of her fur, and she coughed. "Gross," she grumbled.
