Brindlestripe tasted the air. There was a tint to it, but she instead she focused on the mouse scent. She turned over to the mouse, crouching and waiting. It nibbled on a seed as she stalled over to it. She pounced, snapping its neck. She buried it and scented a squirrel. She killed it and brought it to the mouse, planning on bringing it back to camp. She found the spot where she buried the mouse and set down the squirrel. Brindlestripe scratched at the ground. The mouse was gone! Her pelt bristled angrily and she looked back to the squirrel, and it too was gone. Brindlestripe flattened her ears and pelted back to camp.

Hawkstep hopped over logs and swerved around deeper patches of dirt and soil. He skidded to a halt when he spotted a frog. He pressed himself to the ground and prowled slowly towards it as it looked away. Little did he know that Antcloud was right on his feet, probably going to scare it away.

Antcloud saw her Clanmate crouch and tensed up in fear. Is he secretly evil and about to kill me? Is there a fox? What's happening? she thought in panic, starting to breath heavily.

Hawkstep heard the twigs crackling behind him softly: Antcloud. He snorted and prowled closer to the frog, tail twitching nervously. At the right moment, he got close enough and pounced. He hooked his claw into the frogs flesh and swiftly jumped, flipped, and sat on the frog until it went limp.
"Yes!" he yowled with confidence; he probably scared away all the other prey in the forest.

Hawkstep nodded, sliding a small smile to the she-cat. He bluntly kicked the frog and let it lay limp by a nearby tree trunk and pricked his ears for any other sign of moving prey.

Antcloud sniffed the air. She started to say something, but decided not to. She stalked carefully towards a patch of peat with movements among the snow-covered dirt. A tiny shrew crawled through. She pounced towards it a little too early, missing the shrew by a mouse-length.

Hawkstep chuckled and looked up. The sun was just barely shining through, and he saw a beautiful hue of green falling to the forest floor. His eyes lit up as he sniffed the air loudly for any more sign of prey. He turned to Antcloud and saw the shrew. It had scurried away, but because Hawkstep was out of sight, it came right at him. The tom turned and slashed a claw out, but missed it by a millimeter! He groaned and looked around for anything that he might not of scared off with his triumphant yowl earlier before.

"Shall we get heading back now, then?" he asked the distressed warrior.

Hawkstep nodded and snatched the frog in his jaws before Antcloud could get to it, leading the way back to camp with a chest puffed out and tail held high, proud that he had found at least some prey for the season. Soon, he felt a droplet of rain sprinkle down his nose, so he walked faster.

Hawkstep purred, scarcely hearing her over his own ragged breathing. He got up, shook out his fur and glanced at the trees that had somewhat sheltered them from the pouring rain. He approached Brindlestripe and tickled her, laughing. He purred and trotting away, scenting the air.

Brindlestripe purred blissfully. She watched Hawkstep for a moment, then spotted a mouse going in and out of a burrow, grabbing seeds. "Look!" she whispered.

"It's a mouse!" he shrieked, going after it and sending up slush over Brindlestripe with his paws as he leaped at the mouse.
He hooked his claws onto it and nipped it in the shoulder.
"Gotcha!" he exclaimed, trotting back with a chest puffed out in confidence.

Hawkstep purred in amusement and sniffed the air with a growl. His loss of his sense of smell had quite annoyed him throughout the years.

Hawkstep nodded with a faint smile. All of his energy was gone like the wind, and he wanted to stab his nose off for being such a stupid mouse-dung of a sensor.

Brindlestripe brushed her nose against Hawkstep's cheek. "Okay," she mewed. Brindlestripe scented the air. "There's a vole over there," she whispered, motioning.

Hawkstep squinted through the rain and snow, which was slowing down already to a slight small drizzle, and spotted the vole. He prowled after it, but as he got closer, he realized it wasn't a vole. It looked up from a hole, it's small head with gleaming red eyes looking straight at him. It's body emerged, into a deadly looking dog. He screeched, running back and standing in front of Brindlestripe.

OOC: I was gonna get Darkcloud to come out to the forest again but nobody posted after me some Imma poof her... she's in a different part of the forest for now o.o

IC: Darkcloud started stalking a squirrel next to a tree, and leaped up and caught it. She suddenly scented Brindlestripe and Hawkstep, and a dog. Being the mouse-brain she sometimes is, she immediately crawled into a bush.

Brindlestripe saw movement in a bush. Darkcloud's scent flooded her nose. "Darkcloud is down there!" She yowled, starting to go down the tree.

IC: Darkcloud heard Brindlestripe and saw the dog right next to her bush. She leaped out the bush, trying to land on a tree, but because of her age she could only just grab on with her front claws. The dog barked loudly beneath her, and as she slid down the tree a bit, the dog caught hold of her leg in his mouth.

Brindlestripe gasped in horror. She started again to go dlwn, but got her hind paw stuck and tangled in a small hole in the tree. Brindlestripe yowled in pain and terror as she was now hanging from her paw, over Darkcloud and the dog. She reached down, trying to help the old cat, ignoring the immense pain in her paw. "Hawkstep!"

IC: Darkcloud squealed as the dog bit on her leg, and tried to wriggle it free, unsuccessfully. She reached one of her paws up and tried to grab hold of Brindlestripe, instead sliding down some more. Quickly she scrabbled up again, as far as she could.

Brindlestripe tried to get a hold on the hole her paw was stuck in. It was completely numb, and hurt a lot! She tried to stretch away from the dog, but slipped. She landed in the open jaws of the dog. "Help!" she screeched, twisting.

Darkcloud bent down backwards, as the dog pulled on her leg. "I can do this." she muttered, holding out her other leg and one of her paws out for Brindlestripe, locking her muscles in place so she could help pull Brindlestripe out the dog's jaws. The dog quickly snapped and bit on Darkcloud's leg again.

Darkcloud shut her eyes. She took control of her half-bitten leg, and kicked the dog inside it's mouth. In the dog's confusion it let go of Brindlestripe. "Run!" Darkcloud yowled.

Hawkstep snapped out of his slight confusion and leaped down the tree, picking up Brindlestripe by the scruff and gently cradling her. Burning leg muscles carried him past tall trees and over moss-laden stones.
"This way! Come on!" he yowled, running towards the Volcano.
His instinct warned that his voice would give away their location, but he suspected it didn't matter. The dogs know exactly where they are.

Brindlestripe was dazed, laying in Hawkstep's jaws. She was confused and terrified! She watched as the first dog was joined by another, white, but still scary dog. Brindlestripe gasped.
