Umbra scented the air, icy eyes scanning the terrain as she stood beside Angus. "So, macho-man, what's your story?" She meowed nonchalantly.

"My mate betrayed me for some random tom so I killed him and his kits." Angus mewed, snuffling through the undergrowth for food.

Umbra flicked her tail and frowned. "Well, I don't admire killing kits as they didn't do anything wrong.. Their mother did. But I can see why you did. My twolegs threw me out as a kit and forced me to live wild. I hope they've burnt up into ashes by now." She meowed and squared her shoulders.

"Especially their offspring," Umbra commented and moved into a crouch, tail waving lightly before she pounced onto an unsuspecting squirrel, snapping its neck.

"Kits don't pull my fur," Umbra mewed and padded to him, the squirrel hanging from her jaws.

Umbra giggled and flicked her tail against his nose. "Perhaps we have," she purred and set the squirrel down, scenting the air. She flexed her claws and padded forward, crouching as she stalked a mouse.

Angus sniffed the air, catching a slight whiff of fox from beyond the borders. A bluejay called from a branch above, setting off a chorus of replies.

Umbra flattened her ears as the calls spooked the mouse she was stalking, and she quickly pounced with unsheathed claws. She hissed when she missed the mouse, swiping her paw down and trapping it by its tail, biting down on its neck.

"I'd try hunting but I couldn't catch my tail." Angus lazily grumbled.

Umbra grabbed the mouse and carried it over, setting it down. "I learned early on, and I'm not very good at it even now," she mewed, sitting down. "Those birds would have driven away any prey. Let's head to the border instead."

"You sure?" he grumbled, "I think those fox-hearts living on the moor are gonna be a bit ticked off about us beating the life out of them yesterday."

"That's exactly why I want to go," Umbra purred and dragged her tail along the underside of his muzzle. "Maybe we'll be able to get a few pelts peeled off while we're hunting." She grinned cruelly at the thought and flexed her black claws.

"They have pretty sharp claws sometimes though." Angus mewed, motioning to a scratch on his shoulders, "I'd prefer not to scuffle with them unless I have to."

"True," Umbra mewed, thinking it over. She sat down and flicked her tail. "Do you have any suggestions as to where we should go? Of course we can just stay here and talk if you're that type of tom," she meowed and offered him a cheeky grin.

"The sane kind?" he huffed, "We could try to catch one of those noisy fox-hearts up there?" he suggested.

"Oh the birds? Good idea," Umbra meowed and hopped up, climbing up to a low branch. "You wait down here to catch it after it's spooked." Without another word, she climbed higher, padding out along a branch, the leaves hiding her. Her eyes are the only visible trait, the icy irises gleaming with delight.

"Can't they fly up?" he muttered to himself as he waited for his friend to make a move on the birds.

"They fall if you hurt the wings," Umbra muttered and pounced with unsheathed claws, raking them down the plump bird's wings and laughing giddily as it shrieked and fell. She hissed when it raked it's talons down her leg as it fell, and she lashed her claws out at its belly once more before backing up.

Angus watched the bird as it hit the ground with a sickening "thunk". He trotted to it and picked it up, feeling the weakest of pulses in its neck.

Umbra carefully climbed down from the tree, her left front leg holding three bleeding scratches. She winced as she padded to Angus, hissing lowly.

"Yeesh." Angus mewed, "I'd say to get that looked at but I don't think anyone in our group knows herbs."

Umbra snorted and licked at the wounds. "Rin knows enough to prevent infection and stop the bleeding thanks to her mother," she mewed, sitting down. "If we can find some cobwebs, we can wrap this and I'll be good to head back." She looked up at the large tom, flicking her ear.

"I'll be sure to find the web with the most poisonous spider, don't worry." Angus meowed, trampling the debris-covered floor as he walked.

Umbra growled and limped after, looking for some cobwebs herself. She didn't trust the tom not to actually find a web with a poisonous spider.

Angus spotted a hollow log and peaked inside. A stoat sleeping in the log hissed at him and scrambled out.

Umbra looked up, spotting a large web. "Found one," she called, carefully climbing the tree to retrieve it. Once she grabbed it, she climbed down and winced when she landed.

Umbra snorted and got up, leaning against him as she padded back to where they were. She picked up the prey, wrapping her tail around the larger cat to help her balance.
