BrightClan Western Moorlands

BrightClan's moorlands take up most of their territory, a range of rolling, tussock hills with plenty of small bushes and trees. Most of these shelter herbs underneath them, and the soil is nourishing from the volcanic eruptions of old.
The western part is closer to sea level and damper than the eastern area, with sand more often than not mixing with the tussock and creating rolling dunes which Twolegs sometimes take camp on.
Most of the prey found here are smaller rabbits and hares, with hawks on the lookout almost all the time, and nesting moorhens and beach birds such as storks.

Petrelflight led Aurashade, Oceanbreeze, and Jasperheart to the moorland.
Jasperheart scanned the surroundings, looking for any obvious signs of prey, while her stomach grumbled loudly.
Oceanbreeze giggled at Jasperheart's loud belly.

Aurorashade rolled her eyes at Jasperheart and parted her jaws for any sign of prey.

"Sorry." Jasperheart mumbled, shifting her paws.

Petrelflight sniffed the air, getting the scent of sea salt and the crisp scent of coming frosts. She stepped over the grass, the gravelly dirt crunching quietly under her paws. She spotted what looked like the entrance of a rabbit warren and crouched nearby, waiting for a sign of movement.

Oceanbreeze looked overhead to see a lone blackbird fluttering towards a scraggly blackberry bush, landing and pecking for berries on the near-barren branches.

Aurorashade's huge paws crashed through a thicket as she chased a quail. Before it could helicopter away, she triumphantly slashed out a claw and brought it down. As she clumsily clashed back to her patrol, a cold breeze grasped her fur and as she talked, visible air escaped her.
"Great SoulClan, it's cold!" she mewed.

The blackbird took flight and Oceanbreeze was ready. She leaped up, grabbing the bird in her front paws, then placing it carefully in her jaws as she landed.

Aurorashade swiveled herself in the air, swiftly landing on her paws. "Come on, Daisypaw, keep it up!" she chuckled, curling her tail over her paws and licked down her ruffled chest fur.

Daisypaw ran after her, a few seconds later she had joined Aurorashade. "Next time...warn me..!" She huffed,grinning and catching her breath.

After a few moments of catching her breath, Aurorashade flicked her tail over Daisypaw's shoulder. "So, what are we doing today? Hunting or fighting? Or we could play some fun little educational games." she purred.

Daisypaw paused and thought for a moment, quickly making up her mind. "I wanna get better at fighting. Then nobody will even suspect me of being a kittypet before!" She meowed, lashing her tail in excitement.

Aurorashade purred. "It's okay, Daisypaw. No one thinks that. Look at what I've become after a rough life as a kittypet!" she pricked her ears at the sound of a squeak above the tree. A starling was picking at her eggs, making strange noises. "Well.. let's test some hunting a little bit first." she chuckled.

Daisypaw nodded and smiled, watching the bird above. "Should I distract it or you?" She meowed, angling her ears to the mother bird that was hopping around the branch now and looking down at them.

"Run back towards that bush," she instructed. She made careful pawsteps towards the tree, the shadows hiding her body.

Daisypaw nodded and did as she was told, stopping at the bush and turning around the meet Aurorashine's gaze. "What now?" She meowed, flicking her tail as she watched the bird above.

Musicpaw looked at the moors. Why in soulclan was she doing this! She started to stalk a rabbit, which she caught.

Basspaw looked around for his sister, not wanting to shout for her because that would practicly lead to them being caught. " Musicpaw!" he hissed, lashing his tail as he walked to try find her. " Where are you, mousebrain.``

Basspaw looked up to see his sister, smiling immdiently. " Oh there you are! If you must know, I'm saving your sorry flank. Why would you go out alone with rogues on the loose? " He grumbled. " Thank SoulClan your safe. I don't know what I'd do without my mousebrain sister."

He stared at her. "I am not leaving without you and that's final. Either you come with me or we'll both get into trouble. There's no way in SoulClan I'm leaving you here with the knowledge there are rogues about." Basspaw looked at the rabbit she had caught, shaking his head. " It stinks around here, the wind must've blown some rogue scent here."

Basspaw rolled his eyes, thinking her exclaimation was probaly just a piece of fur on a gorse bush. "What is it? You don't need to shout that land, they can hear you from FireClan with that rackett." The apprentice padded over to where his sister was.

Musicpaw was standing near a piece of prey. "It has scent all over it. There are more, over there. Havent been touched."

Basspaw felt his body stiffen as he heard her words. "Rogue scent? If so, we better bring it back and own up for sneaking out. Ivorystar has to know about this!" He glanced around, his breathing fast and uneven. "IS the scent fresh?"

Basspaw looked at her then the prey. "We need to tell Ivorystar, I just said that! She'll know we sneaked out anyway, it's got your scent all over it now!" He prodded the dead body with a paw. " It reeks of rogue... This is why we shouldn't come out without someone's permisson, Musicpaw!"

Musicpaw nodded. "Lets go.." She picked up two of the rogues pieces of prey and started heading back to camp.

Basspaw nodded, looking at the other pieces of rogue scented prey. "How can they just waste prey like that?" He muttered before following his sister back to camp. A load of un-educated foxhearts...

Petrelflight stepped onto the moorland, sniffing the air. She scented a rabbit warren nearby and grinned, crouching into the long grass and looking for the grazing prey.

Wavepaw padded behind the warrior, sniffing the air lightly and soon picked up the same rabbit as Petrelflight. He moved closer, murmuring, "there must be three or four, smells like young rabbits."

"Newleaf just passed so they're probably this year's litter." Petrelflight noted, "Easy pickings."
Riptidepaw got to his brother's side and crouched beside him, straining his eyes to see a break in the grass ahead where the burrow was.

Wavepaw's ears pricked, hearing the small squeakings and shufflings through the dry grasses. "Pick one and go for it?" he suggested, glancing at Petrelflight for approval.

Wavepaw crept around to the side, his body tense but still relaxed enough to move through the grasses without disturbing them more than a breeze would. He got around the front, where the wind blew from behind him and pounced, scaring the rabbits and scattering them in all directions.

Petrelflight lunged out at the rabbit closest to her, tearing after it with Riptidepaw on her heels. The rabbit tried to turn and Riptidepaw crashed into the animal, the rabbit squealing in fear as Riptidepaw bit into its throat.

Wavepaw darted off after one of the younger ones, close enough to feel the dust from the rabbit's heels hitting him in the face before he pounced, knocking it over and quickly killing it with a sharp shake.

Snowpuddle padded onto a hill of sand and dirt, her fur getting moved from the wind that breezed through slightly. She admired the scenic view, her mind wandering away from the tragic news at camp.

Gingersplash purred. "The view is beautiful, just like you, Snowpuddle." His tail wrapped around her, before he looked around and spotted a momma rabbit. "Snow.." He whispered, pointing to the rabbit.

Snowpuddle purred at his comment, and spotting the rabbit, quickly got into a crouch. She stalked towards, her fur sticking out slightly against the sand. As she got closer and closer, she leaped at the rabbit, her paws digging the dirt up and she got air. She landed just next to the rabbit, cursing under her breath, and pounced again. She lashed her claws out, tearing the skin of the prey but not killing it. She cursed again, chasing the rabbit.

Gingersplash waited, when the rabbit starting heading his direction, he sprinted, chasing it down as well. The rabbit wasn't to quick, and he pounced. He bit into the rabbit, killing it. He looked around and saw Snow.

Snowpuddle, agitated now about not being able to kill the rabbit, had her fur fluffed up in anger. She kept cursing at herself under her breath, not wanting to look at the dead rabbit now. So, she turned her body away from it, looking back at the view.

Gingersplash frowned, padding up to her and dropping the rabbit in front of him. "Hey, at least we got the prey." He meowed, pressing against her. "You can still try." He meowed, padding away and looking for more prey, leaving the rabbit there.

She nodded as he left, but she knew she couldn't leave the rabbit alone in the open. She reluctantly grabbed it and buried under the dirt. She then padded away to find more prey, but then stopped in her tracks and turned back around. If the rabbit had a home, she possibly had babies. Snowpuddle struck a thought and went to the hole to check it out.

Gingersplash turned around, and followed Snowpuddle. "Where are you going?" He whispered, his tail low. He was trying to be quiet. "Did you find more prey?" He asked curiously, almost tripping over his paws.

"I got to thinking.. what if that rabbit has babies? It will mean more prey, more for the clan." She whispered back, peering into the rabbit hole. She sniffed inside, and sure enough, she smelled more rabbits. "But what if they are just newborns, I don't think i could kill newborn rabbits." She whispered with slight unease in her voice.
