Rockgrove || The Caves of Trapped Stars

The Caves of Trapped Stars often are what attract Twolegs to this area of the Mountains from the Brightsprings; they go inside just like the cats to admire the small specks of light in the darkness of the caves, which mimic the stars in the sky outside. It is located East of the Rockgrove Woods and has a large underground river flowing through it, which could be dangerous if swept into. No herbs grow due to the darkness, and the only prey that can be found is the occasional lost rabbit or bat.

Fleur roused from her nest made of feathers and moss. She blinked a few times, adjusting to the light filtering in through the cave's entrance. Her eyes flicked over to the rest of the sleeping bodies in different sectors of the cave. She padded out onto the soft grass, and listened to the birdsong while she watched the silhouette of other cats in the far distance.

Taz stretched as he awoke, yawning in the cool air. "Snow," he remarked to Fleur as he walked out beside her, staring at the undisturbed white blanketing the area.

Fleur grumbled as she shook the wet snow from her pelt. "Leaf-bare has arrived, and I sure don't like it." she growled, lifting a paw and drawing it behind her ear.

Taz chuckled. "It arrives as it has every year, Fleur. Can't stop it." He gently prodded a small pile. "At least it'll stop Twolegs."

"Maybe it'll stop them from coming in here, but in Rockgrove? I'd expect to see acres of their kits running around and playing in it." Fleur flicked her tail irritably, continuing to groom her ruffled fur.

Taz shook his head. "It's too heavy. They can't travel when their paths are covered." He stepped into the snow and sunk to his neck. "Very heavy."

Fleur let out a soft chuckle. "Ah, wise prediction. I'd still expect to see some in a few moons, however."

Taz nodded. "But at least we'll have some peace for these few moons." He purred and pressed his nose to her ear.

Fleur nodded slowly. "Well, I'm going to see how (insert name here) and her kit, Cinnamon, are doing," she meowed. "I've heard that Cinnamon's mother had a small cough earlier."

Taz purred softly. "If she's any worse, send her to me." He dipped his head and stood. "I'm going to hunt, these lazy lumps seem like they're not good for anything."

Fleur nodded, padding a few feet down the cave to where the kits slept with their mothers. She saw Cinnamon curled up in a bed of feathers and purred. "Good morning, Cinnamon." she meowed softly. She noticed that the queen was still in a deep slumber so she gently stepped away. Maybe I'll go out for a hunt. she thought, shaking out her coat and padding out into the grass.

Nudge slid out of her nest and padded over to Fleur. "Hi," she greeted, smiling widely.

Fleur dipped her head to touch noses with Nudge. "Good morning, honey," she purred, wrapping her tail around her shoulder. "I was going to go out and scavenge the port for some fish, since the mice and rabbits are all scurrying back into their burrows for leaf-bare. Care to join me?"

Taz padded back into the cave, his fur sprinkled with snow and paws almost completely soaked wet. "So much for finding fresh herbs," he muttered to himself as he dropped his small trout, shaking his pelt out to dry it.

Fleur purred, turning her head as Taz entered the cave. She flicked her ear as some droplets of snow flew onto her, and tilted her head. "At least you managed to find some prey," she reassured him, pushing the trout in a safer area. "Me and Nudge are heading to the port to see if we can find anything to eat. I've been scavenging the area and prey is scarce."

"Isn't it leaf-bare soon? The prey will all be hiding in its burrows," Nudge commented.

"Yes," Fleur frowned. "It's an unfortunate season for us, but it's great that we live so close to a Twolegplace, so we can steal food like fish when we can't find prey ourselves."
