FireClan//BrightClan Border

Along the edge of FireClan's forest and the main section of BrightClan's moorlands. This border stretches the length of both their territories, with FireClan having to pass through a small section of BrightClan land to get to the Gatherings.

Cloudedpool carefully lead her patrol to the border, ears flattening to her head and her nose wrinkling. "What in SoulClan is that stench?" She tried not to gag, fluffing up her fur against the cold.

Umberdash followed Cloudedpool. The icy winds bit through his thin pelt and he suppressed a shiver. After a moment, the thick, choking stink hit him. His ears went back and he almost coughed. "Yeah, it's worse than crowfood," he muttered.

Duckpuddle gagged as he entered the area, nausea twisting his stomach into knots. "Ungh... Less like crow food, more like rotten crow eggs..."

Cedarpaw scrunched up his nose. "Disgusting."

Flamepaw held his breath as he padded along the border, eyes watering at the stench wafting across the border.

Cloudedpool nodded her agreement with Duckpuddle, swallowing to suppress the gagging that wanted to overtake her. She moved to renew the scent markers, unsure about if they would matter with the strength of the stench coming from FireClan.

Plumdrop padded at the rear of the group, her ears pricked for any commotion but also pondering the smell. It's like FireClan's clan scent, but a skunk sprayed it.

Cedarpaw made a sillier face back at his brother, gagging with intensity.

Duckpuddle tried to renew their markers but still felt very nauseous.

Wrinkling his nose, Umberdash renewed some scent markers. "Ugh..." He tried to ignore the odor and breathe from his mouth, but it only made it worse.

"Is it even worth marking the border?" Flamepaw complained, "They won't even be able to smell us under this stench."

"Yeah!" Cedarpaw groaned. "It stinks so bad that it's already marked the border for us! Let's just go back to camp..."

Plumdrop looked at the apprentices. "This is only one border," she mewed. "And it's part of the code that we patrol it every day. Would you prefer to be punished for breaking the code?"

Cloudedpool sighed and shook her head. "I'm worried about FireClan. This smell wasn't here yesterday, we'd have caught it at the gathering," she mewed, looking toward Plumdrop, Duckpuddle, and Umberdash. "Plumdrop, I'll probably need your help reporting it to Stagshade or Snowystar."

"Yes Plumdrop. Sorry Plumdrop." Cedarpaw mumbled, hot embarrassment shooting through him. He looked up at Cloudedpool. "Do you think it was because of the earthquake? Because they didn't smell like crowfood at the gathering, I mean."

Cedarpaw looked towards Flamepaw and nodded with a wise expression on his face. "May SoulClan guide their souls," he mrowed, bowing his head before shooting back up again and laughing. "How could a whole Clan die in one day?"

Plumdrop nodded, then scented the air again as she frowned. "I'd be hesitant to call the smell crowfood. It's...almost familiar."

Umberdash nodded. "It does, but I can't quite find out what it is." He still didn't like the stench, its familiarity notwithstanding.

"Almost like eggs," Cloudedpool chipped in, sending a sharp look to the apprentices. "I doubt they died. If it was the volcano, there'd be a lot more fire and destruction, in theory." She shook her head, tail flicking anxiously behind her.

Floralight led her patrol to the border. She blinked in surprise at the BrightClan patrol, but gave nothing away.

Flintpaw padded up beside her, waving at Flamepaw and Cedarpaw.

Cedarpaw grinned back.

"Floralight," Plumdrop dipped her head in greeting to the FireClan deputy, though kept her wits about her.

Cloudedpool dipped her head to the deputy, shifting on her paws. She wanted to ask about what had happened, but held her tongue. "We should be getting back. We can hunt on our way," she muttered to Plumdrop, the presence of the FireClan cats setting her on edge.

Ivyfire stopped beside Floralight, lifting her chin a tad higher. She twitched her ears backwards and curled her tail between her legs.

Floralight nodded in greeting to Plumdrop. She eyed Cloudedpool slightly, noticing the guarded way the she-cat held herself. She was tempted to ask if their clan was okay, but didn't get the chance to as Flintpaw did it for her.

Flintpaw padded up to the border, careful not to cross. He smiled at Flamepaw. "Did anything happen to your guys' clan?"

Umberdash looked at Cloudedpool. "They're probably as confused as we are, maybe we could try to find out what happened," he suggested in a hushed voice. "What if FireClan's territory is broken too? They have a volcano on their territory, so they might need help." The volcano, while it wouldn't erupt, could cause other problems for the FireClan cats.

Floralight grumbled at Flintpaw and blocked him slightly. She ignored his whine of frustration and pondered for a second, glancing at the other patrol. "We are fine, however, you can probably tell that the stench is quite.... pungent," thanks for asking. Her sarcastic thoughts were short though, and she wasted no time in marking.

Cedarpaw glanced at the small FireClan deputy nervously, before leaning over and whispering to his brother. "They smell worse than the actual territory. I feel bad," he scrunched up his nose for effect, laughing lightly afterwards.
