Oakpaw set the mouse down and nodded. "Silverpaw has been helping me," he mewed with a small smile, "And in return I've helped her with fighting."

Stormpoppy nodded. "Well I'll try and take you out for some battle training later, if you'd like?"

Moonpaw's ears pricked. Bird. She swarmed up the nearest tree, crouching on one of the branches as she watched a blackbird flit from branch to branch.

Talonstep watched Moonpaw with bright amber eyes. He flicked his tail, sitting down while he watched.

Stormpoppy glanced up at the warrior keeping watch in the tree, then back at Dragonmoon. "Well, you can trade with Hawksky if you don't want to hunt," she mewed, slightly sarcastically.

Dragonmoon twitched his ear with annoyance. "I guess I'll just hunt then." He huffed and walked off but not to far away. He sniffed the air for prey and walked around silently.

Moonpaw's gaze narrowed as the blackbird neared. She tensed, glancing around just enough to take note of the branches nearby, and leaped at the bird. She managed to catch it as she landed, but it let out a loud screech before she killed it. Cursing under her breath, she dropped down to the ground with the bird in her jaws. "Stupid animals."

Talonstep rolled his eyes with a laugh. He flicked his tail before curling it around his paws. "Sometimes you have to kill it faster because now all the nearby prey know we're here. That screech warned them," he meowed and stood up, scenting the air.

Talonstep moved in front of her and lowered his head, amber eyes narrowed. "Moonpaw, I am not aware of how far into your training your last mentor got you. I wasn't trying to be condescending, simply informative," he hissed and stood up straight, glancing towards Stormpoppy. "We should move farther out," he meowed.

Oakpaw stood up from catching a plump mouse, the piece of prey still within his jaws. He glanced towards his mentor, waiting for her to say what to do.

Stormpoppy shrugged. "It's getting late, I think. It might be better if we get back before the dusk patrol is sent out," she mewed, adding in case something happens while we're out in her head.

Moonpaw snarled a little at Talonstep, ears flat, but not making any move to attack him. She simply picked up her bird.

Talonstep nodded and stretched, parting his jaws in a yawn. "I would like to see how Willowfeather and my kits are," he purred.

Oakpaw padded forward and set his mouse down, digging up the other one. He picked up both of them by their tails.

Moonpaw waited until Talonstep left to follow her mentor.

Talonstep nodded briskly and padded after, making sure Moonpaw was beside him. He looked towards Oakpaw walking next to Stormpoppy, thinking about how the apprentice and his sister lost their mother.

Scarletpetal arrived at the Bird Song Trees, looking back to make sure her patrol was with her. “I see nor smell no signs of rogues here. Skypaw, go ahead and try to copy my hunting stance.” She mewed right away, wanting to teach her apprentice much. So, she went ahead and got into her hunting crouch, her fluffy tail lightly touching the ground and her body straight as she held her postion. Then she began to slowly creep forward, focusing her eyes on a fallen leaf.

Nightfrost watched for a moment, before scenting blackbird. He flicked his tail, getting Creampaw's attention, and dropped into a similar but ever so slightly different crouch than Scarletpetal, climbing silently up the nearest tree.

Creampaw waited on the ground for Nightfrost to lunge at the bird. She remembered the apprentices telling her about this!

Skypaw snorted and scented the air, dropping into a hunting crouch with her tail held off the ground as she tracked the scent of a mouse. I'm not a kit, Scarletpetal, I know how to get into a hunting crouch.

ic: Nightfrost narrowed his eyes and watched, hidden in the trunk's shadow as the bird jumped closer. He timed it perfectly so he leaped as the bird wasn't watching, but it was startled and let out a loud noise that immediately silenced the area. Cursing loudly, Nightfrost climbed back down. "Leaf-fall's making them wary."

Scarletpetal watched her apprentice closely, noting her body was too close to the ground and her paws seemed to drag ever slightly. Don’t get ahead of yourself. She thought to herself as she watched her. She did glance towards Nightfrost and Creampaw, seeing how they were doing.

Skypaw had stopped to watch how Creampaw had mimicked Nightfrost's crouch, adjusting hers to match it exactly. She returned to the task at hand, spotting the mouse at the base of a tree. Swallowing, she padded forward silently, narrowly avoiding a twig that would've given her away. Once close enough, she pounced with unsheathed claws, narrowly missing the mouse. With a huff, she sat up and returned to the crouch, not one to give up easily.

Creampaw looked up at Nightfrost in admiration only to quickly look away when he climbed down. "Maybe we should try for some prey that doesn't fly?" She mewed lightly.

Creampaw closed her eyes and scented the air, mewing, "A squirrel, but it smells like the prey hunted yesterday." She padded a little ways away and tried scenting the air again. "Two mice and another squirrel," she meowed.

“Even if you had missed that mouse, you still could have gone after it again. Takes patience.” She mewed to Skypaw, letting out a small sigh. She decided not to catch anything, wanting to watch the apprentices.

Skypaw gritted her teeth and tuned out her mentor's voice, instead focusing on the strong scent of the mouse. Once she was close enough, she pounced, letting out a purr when her unsheathed claws sunk into the mouse. She snapped it's neck swiftly and picked it up, head high.

Nightfrost purred a little. "A little bit of advice, mice are very sensitive to footsteps. It might take a bit of practice, but they can feel your feet touching the ground," he explained, knowing Skypaw would be listening too. "Probably best to try and go after the mouse than the squirrel."

Nightfrost shrugged. “If you can climb trees, go for it. Squirrels will immediately return up a tree to the parts where cats are too heavy to go. They’re not easy to catch.” He flicked his ear as the mouse snufflings got louder.

Creampaw nodded, but opted to go for the mouse. She returned to the hunter's crouch and quietly padded forward, setting her paws down as lightly as she could. Padding slowly, she pounced at the perfect time, landing on the mouse and sinking her teeth into its neck to kill it. Standing up, she looked to Nightfrost to see how she did.

Creampaw beamed and picked up the mouse, trotting over to her temporary mentor. "I wonder if we could ever find rabbits here," she meowed. "Rabbits are my favorite; so fluffy."

Nightfrost chuckled. "Sometimes they come in here, if it snows too thickly over the moors. They don't like the trees so much, though." He turned his attention to Skypaw, wondering if she'd picked up on his words too.

Skypaw climbed up a tree stealthily, creeping out onto a branch after a squirrel. She stayed hidden in the shadows the tree provided, leaping forward at the perfect time and biting into the squirrel's neck. She climbed down, setting down the squirrel. "I guess I'm better at hunting squirrels," she mewed.

Creampaw offered her sister a proud smile and padded over, playfully cuffing her ear.

Nightfrost frowned. "Well, no. My father was a CloudClan cat, and Scarletpetal's parents were LeafClan and CloudClan." He flicked his tail. "This used to be LeafClan territory, the Twolegs destroyed it moons ago." He decided against mentioning his mother was a kittypet, thinking it would be best not to say.

Nightfrost nodded. "I suppose if you asked Russetstar he wouldn't say no." He flicked his tail, then glanced up at the sky as clouds began to gather again on the horizon. "Let's go back to camp. Those look like snowclouds."

"Wait! I want to try and get a bird," Creampaw meowed, scaling a tree easily. She scented the air, but stopped when a bird landed in front of her. Slowly, she moved into a crouch, unsheathing her claws. She leaped forward, slicing her claws through the bird's wings, sending it tumbling to the ground with a loud shriek. Upon impact, its neck broke, and she climbed down swiftly to claim her prize.

"I don't think that's how it's supposed to be done, but it worked," Skypaw laughed, muffled by the prey she was holding.

Scarletpetal had simply listened and watched, agreeing with Nightfrost. “Let’s head back to camp. I need to report to Littleflower or Russetstar.” She mentioned, already making her way back to camp. She felt uneasy for some reason, and she didn’t know why. Her pelt tingled as a chilly gust of wind went by.

To tell them the borders we checked are clear.” She answered him, her pelt just barely touching his. “ I might go out into our territory by myself later, if you want to join.” She told him quietly, so the apprentices didn’t hear. She wanted time away from camp a little, away from all that was happening.
