Creampaw pricked her ears when she heard her name, her ears heating up. She ignored the envy she felt towards Scarletpetal, flattening her ears and focusing instead on Skypaw. Her sister was clearly lost in though, sapphire eyes glazed over as she mindlessly followed the sound of pawsteps.

Nightfrost glanced up at the sky again. “They won’t be here for a while. I was just suggesting we move closer to camp.”

"Does she ever wait up?" Skypaw asked bluntly, her irritation with her mentor showing through. Why couldn't I have Nightfrost? She huffed lightly. "We should drop the prey off at camp."

Nightfrost scented the air again quickly and found a spot under one of the trees where leaves lay. "So the idea of this is to stop the scent seeping out so that other things like badgers or foxes don't come and steal it," he explained, scraping a hollow in the leaves and through the first thin layer of soil. "Put your prey in there, and put the leaves back on top."

Skypaw nodded and placed the squirrel and mouse in the hole, backing up so Creampaw could place her bird and mouse in. She pushed the leaves over the prey, stretching.

Nightfrost nodded with approval. "Right, let's go find Scarletpetal," he purred, padding off after her scent trail.

Dreampaw padded slowly towards the trees, her ears flicking at every sound they pick up. She smiled lightly at both the feeling of Rainpaw's tail on her shoulder and the soft grass beneath her paws.

Talonstep glanced towards Rainpaw and Dreampaw, amber eyes soft. He looked to Moonpaw, thinking over when he should give her, her warrior assessment.

Springpaw followed after the patrol, her fluffy yellow-brown fur swishing in the slight breeze. She glanced around, remembering the kit’s tale about how this area was named.

Rainpaw stepped over a rock with ease, pausing without thinking to help Dreampaw over.

Moonpaw glanced at Talonstep. "Are we hunting for anything in particular? Or just hunting?"

Dreampaw purred her thanks to Rainpaw and scented the air, closing her sightless eyes. She twitched her ears, listening for the sounds of prey.

"Just hunting," Talonstep purred and closed his eyes, scenting the air.

Springpaw sniffed. “I wonder what Newleaf hunting isn’t like. My mother said it’s amazing.” She said curiously.

Rainpaw glanced at Springpaw. "Newleaf hunting is the best. The prey gets so fat that it can't move properly," he purred, remembering his first successful rabbit hunt fondly.
Moonpaw just rolled her eyes. "Yeah, and you fell into its burrow, so it wasn't exactly a hard catch," she snorted at her brother.

Dreampaw laughed and pressed her nose to Rainpaw's cheek. "I wish I could've been there for that," she mewed. "My first catch was a squirrel in Green-leaf. It was so fat, or at least that's what I heard from Solarpounce. He was leading the patrol," she mewed.

“The biggest prey I’ve seen was the squirrel my father brought back, I barely ate half of it. I’ve never caught prey before, I wonder what it’s like.” Springpaw said, resembling the large prey.

Moonpaw was about to reply but froze, ears pricked, as she heard a mouse scuffling. She crouched and slunk towards it, tail held still above the leaf-litter.

Dreampaw carefully navigated between the small piles of leaves, her paws hitting the ground lightly while she followed the scent of a mouse.

Rainpaw watched them, glancing at Talonstep before shrugging and opening his mouth to let the smells of the trees wash over his scent glands.

Moonpaw pounced while the mouse was preoccupied, snapping its neck with a sharp jerk. She stood proudly, a little too smug.

Dreampaw seemed to be staring right at the squirrel, easily following its movements before pouncing and biting into its neck when it clambered off the tree. She stood up, turning in the direction where she scented Rainpaw and lifting the squirrel to proudly show him.

Jadestar padded slowly towards the patrol, placing her tail against Brindlepaw's mouth to tell her to be quiet. "Watch how they hunt," she whispered, jade green eyes flicking back to her clanmates.

Rainpaw purred lightly to show his pride for Dreampaw before looking up, hearing the song of a sparrow in the tree. Excellent.

Brindlepaw nodded, eyes wide.

Dreampaw dug a shallow hole into the ground and dropped the squirrel into it, pushing the dirt and snow back over it before returning to hunting. She slipped into a crouch, following the scent of a mouse.

Jadestar sat down and looked to Brindlepaw. "Try to replicate the crouch Dreampaw is in," she whispered, flicking her ear.

The sparrow continued chirping as Rainpaw climbed up, but a gust of wind rattled the leaves left on the tree. The bird screeched in fear and flew off, making Rainpaw curse under his breath and drop back down into the snow. "Stupid bird, scared of the wind."

Dreampaw padded over after successfully killing a small mouse and burying it. She nuzzled the tom, licking his ear. "You'll catch something, I'm sure," she mewed.

Rainpaw shrugged. "I'm not too bothered, this snow is gonna cover everything. Maybe we should head home."

Distracted by the falling flakes, Brindlepaw sat up a little and batted at them, purring happily.

Dreampaw nodded slightly and glanced towards where she scented Jadestar. "We have an audience," she mewed softly to him.

Jadestar chuckled at Brindlepaw and gently flicked her tail over the young shecat's ear.

Dreampaw purred and dug up her prey. Both of them were quite small, and the mouse seemed almost too young to have been away from it's mother for long.

"This Leaf-bare seems like a hard one, but we will survive," Jadestar mewed.

Rainpaw snorted. "We'll get used to it, I suppose. It's not like greenleaf is gone forever." He waved his tail happily.

Brindlepaw dropped into a similar hunting crouch that one of the older apprentices had shown her not long ago, though she looked a bit awkward.
"Try tucking your paws in a little more," Moonpaw suggested as she padded up, dropping her own catch of a very fluffy young rabbit.

"We should head back," Dreampaw mewed quietly and looked to Talonstep, trying not to laugh as the large tom grumbled over losing a few mice.
