Tidepaw bounded ahead, his claws already unsheathed, and his eyes were wide with alert. It looked as if he would jump on anything that suddenly moved, even if it were his own denmates. "So, Willowpaw," He meowed, turning to fix his gaze on the shecat, "Where is the nest?"

Rosepaw skidded to a halt in front of the washed-out camp. She gathered herself and sat down, scanning the area. "It's probably hidden under something," she chirped. She desperately hoped the mother wasn't home, but the crack of lightning that tore open the sky made her extremely nervous. I need to prove myself to Willowpaw. she thought, fluffing out her fur.

Tidepaw glanced at Rosepaw as she answered in place of Willowpaw. "Well, obviously!" He meowed, rolling his eyes, "What kind of animal keeps their children out in the open?"

Willowpaw carefully stepped across camp, flinching at every slight sound and movement. Spotting the mound of earth, leaf litter, and dead fish, she slowly began to approach, signaling for the other apprentices to do the same.

Bearpaw rolled his shoulders back with a groan of exhaustion before he padded forward, light on his paws while Cherrypaw followed.

“I can do that.” Rainpaw said. “I was able to spot a group of fish last moon from a long ways off!” She said proudly.

Cherrypaw perked up immediately. "That'd be me. Just tell me a high place to go. I'm better with high places," she meowed quickly. She glowered when Rainpaw beat her to the opportunity.

"Okay, I need you two get on this tree stump and yell as loudly as you can when you think you see the alligator. Bearpaw, Tidepaw, Rosepaw! I want you three digging. Once you spot the eggs, shout and we'll come to carry them out." Willowpaw commanded boldly.

Cherrypaw leaped onto the stump and unsheathed her claws in case they needed her help digging.

Bearpaw lashed his tail and unsheathed his claws, trying not to gag as he began digging.

Tidepaw grunted, slightly bothered he didn't get to do the harder, and braver job. With a curt nod, he set his paws to digging, throwing up mounds of mud behind him.

Rosepaw stiffened as the other apprentices left to keep watch. She unsheathed her claws and starting digging through the soil under a bush, kicking dust everywhere. She overheard Willowpaw and frowned. I could easily lead whatever she's trying to do. she thought, and abruptly stopped to approach her sister. "I think I know a good place to put the eggs." she mewed gently, shrinking a bit in fear of her larger sister.

Tidepaw coughed as the dust that Rosepaw kicked up drifted into his face. "Watch it!" He snapped, blinking the dust out his eyes. Now I've got dirt everywhere! The young apprentice glanced at the water, and twitched his whiskers, I could just take a tiny dip in, I'm sure the alligator is fast asleep. Tidepaw padded over to the shore, and slowly waded in, shivering in excitement as he felt the water lap at his belly. He hadn't been swimming in ages, ever since the alligator problem.

Splashpaw ran up to where the other apprentices were, who were digging out the eggs and said "Hey I want to help too! Am I too late?"

"Help them dig." Willowpaw ordered. "When you see an egg, yelled."

A shape moved slowly through the water, lunging and crushing a huge salmon in its jaws, the force creating a huge splash in the river.

Willowpaw tensed, waiting to give the order to run if necessary.

The huge beast waded through the water, the top of its head poking out of the water. It glared at its surroundings with beady, yellow eyes, but didn't seem to approach the shore.

OOC: note, there are a LOT of eggs. Like, at least 20. Alligators have a lot of eggs. A cat can only carry one egg at a time. Do not try to grab every egg.
IC: Willowpaw puffed up and faced the gator as it eyed them, prepared to fight to protect her Clanmates.

Cherrypaw whimpered and jumped at the splash, her sharp eyes searching the dark waters. Never before had she feared the water their clan was known for, but right now, she was terrified of stepping close to it.

Bearpaw dug quickly with his long, sharp claws, brown legs covered in mud. He grunted when his claws hit an egg. "Found one!" He called.

"Give it to me give it to me." Willowpaw stammered, rushing over and carefully picking up the egg. She rushed to the bank where the alligator was, careful to show off that she had the egg, then began running towards the twolegplace.

Quartzpaw managed to wrench another egg out of the nest, tucking it under her chin and high-tailing it after Willowpaw, her own fear-scent heavy in her nostrils.

About to grab another egg, Splashpaw jerked back when she saw the gator moving towards her and the other apprentices. She yelped in fear an sprinted in the opposite direction of the green creature.

IC: Tidepaw yelped in horror as the alligator hissed at them, getting closer. He splashed his way out, his fur spiked up and soaked. Without even glancing at the pile of eggs, he sprinted past it without picking one up.

The alligator trotted towards Otterpaw, hissing.

Willowpaw doubled back, dropping her egg into the swift moving river. As the current pushed the egg towards the ocean, Willowpaw raced to the alligator's side and smacked it, darting back as quickly as possible.

Bearpaw flattened his ears and doubled back to the nest, tugging out an egg and pushing towards the river quickly. He purred in relief when Cherrypaw helped him and the egg was soon in the river with the two apprentices sprinting away.

IC: "Wait! Don't just push them in the river we'll make her angry!" Willowpaw shouted, panicking, "I dropped mine by accident don't copy-" The alligator turned towards her, its huge jaws agape. She shrieked and darted away as it lunged.

Rosepaw screeched in fear, clamping an egg in her jaws and spitting it out into the river, darting after Bearpaw and Cherrypaw. She turned back to see Otterpaw trying to fight off the alligator and let out a shrill eek! before leaping onto the creature's back and frantically trying to claw at its scales.

Panicking slightly, Quartzpaw dropped her egg between the shelter of two rocks, not pushing it into the water and racing back. “We need to leave! It’ll eat all of us if it can!”

Tidepaw surprisingly didn't respond back in a rude manner, and only scrambled up the land without a word. At the top, he whipped around, watching the apprentices barely wound the alligator.

Bearpaw leaped straight over the gator once high enough, quickly followed by Cherrypaw. The two landed lightly and broke into a sprint for higher ground.
