Plumdrop's whiskers twitched, and she padded over to the apprentices. "Ah, Cedarpaw, you're awake."
Rabbitpaw opened one eye. "And the rest of us."

Cedarpaw shot a crooked smile up at his mentor, his regular dread forming in his stomach again. Here we go again.. "Mornin', Plumdrop. Did you need something?" His voice was raw with fatigue.

"Shush, go back to sleep," Flamepaw mumbled, rolling over in his nest and curling into a tight ball.

"You're on dawn patrol, Cedarpaw," Stagshade mewed flatly.

Plumdrop nodded. "On your paws. We can hunt on the way back," her tail flicked, trying not to notice how close Stagshade was standing to her.

Rabbitpaw snorted softly. "Bummer," he teased his brother lightly, shoving him out of the nest.

Flamepaw yelped and tumbled out of his nest, kicking up a cloud of dust in his wake. He grumbled and staggered to his paws, flattening his ears at Rabbitpaw. "I'll get you back for that," he spat.

Cloudedpool purred in her amusement. "Duckpuddle, are you wanting to bring Flamepaw with us?" She looked to the tom, tilting her head.

Hearing Cloudedpool's statement, Umberdash hurried over to the cat. "Where are we patrolling?" he asked, eager to leave camp and see how the territory survived the earthquake.

Cedarpaw sent a tight smile of agitation towards Stagshade. "Sure..." He mumbled a quick 'Exactly what I wanted' to himself under his breath before stretching and slinking outside.

Duckpuddle shot a glance towards the apprentices' den and frowned. "Yeah, I'll take him. He hasn't gone on many patrols yet, might be fun." He pursed his lips slightly. "I'll go get him.."

Flamepaw saw his mentor approaching and let out a groan of irritation. "Of course you're up this early," he grumbled.

Stagshade scanned the clearing, eyes narrowed. "Fleetbird! Glidefeather!" he called.

Glidefeather's ears pricked. "Gotta go," he mewed sheepishly to Petrelflight, scurrying over to Stagshade with wide eyes. "Yes?"

"Great," Plumdrop's tail flicked. "We should leave soon. Maybe we can talk to other patrols, see if their Clans are okay."

Fleetbird shook his fur out when he came out the nursery, having decided on checking on his kits before he went on patrol. “Morning, Stagshade.” He greeted the deputy, nodding his head respectively as he looked towards the other cats. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”

Dovelight licked her paw as she looked over the herbs in her den for the she doesn’t know time since midnight. She hadn’t gotten any sleep, her anxiety about the quake worrying her to the point of no sleep. She yawned, deciding that she wasn’t getting anywhere with this, before moving out of the den.

Duckpuddle smiled half-heartedly, not wanting to deal with his apprentice's attitude this early. "We're going on patrol. It's good experience for you, and you aren't gonna be alone since Cedarpaw is coming too."

Cedarpaw noticed his brother talking with Duckpuddle and felt jealousy arouse in him. Why wasn't his mentor so kind? He flattened his ears and let his anger fester for a moment before dropping it. He padded up to Cloudedpool. "When are we leaving?" he whispered so that his mentor couldn't hear. "I just want this to be over as quickly as possible..." he mumbled.

Stagshade nodded to Fleetbird, suppressing his anger at the tom, then looked to Glidefeather. "Lead the way," he mewed authoritatively.

Flamepaw rolled his eyes. "Alright," he snorted, padding after Duckpuddle.

"We'll head to the border with FireClan first, and hunt on the way back," Cloudedpool purred and lead her patrol out of camp, somewhat eager to see the state of the moors herself.

Hawkpaw looked up at Stagshade and frowned. "Can I come with?" He meowed, shifting where he sat.

Nightbrook stopped beside Petrelflight. "I can go hunting with you," she purred, shaking out her dark fur. "The tension in camp isn't something I'd like to stick around for."

Umberdash nodded and followed Cloudedpool out of camp. He partly wished he had brought his apprentice with him for the experience, but it would have been far too risky.

Stagshade sighed. "I suppose so," he mewed, "But stay close to me, I don't want you getting swallowed by the earth or anything."

Flamepaw trotted behind Cloudedpool, his head drooping.

"Perfect!" Petrelflight purred, "I was thinking of hitting up a rabbit run on the moor, they're pretty hard to catch on your own."

Petrelflight darted out of camp with the energy of a young warrior.

Stagshade padded to the entrance of camp and cast a look over his shoulder, waiting for Glidefeather to lead the way.

Hawkpaw narrowed his eyes at the tom and huffed. "I won't fall in! I have eyes, you know. If the moors split then I'll be able to see it," he retorted, lifting his chin.

Glidefeather gave a brisk nod, glancing at the apprentice for a moment before bounding out the camp entrance and into the moors.

Cherrywind blinked awake at the gentle talking of the camp, glancing down at her sleeping kits and purring a little. She managed to get up without disturbing them, padding out into the dawn-streaked canyon they called their home and looking around. Everyone seems so tense.

Kestrelskip rose from her nest, blinking as sunlight filtered into her eyes. She looked around, confusion crossing her mind as she realized how empty it looked.

Midnightkit blinked open his eyes as his mother moved out of the den. He looked down at his sister and scoffed. Ryekit was just like a baby, especially if she was sleeping this long. He darted outside the den and glanced around for any kits or apprentices to play with.

Kestrelskip wrinkled her nose as the smell of rotten eggs wafted off the patrol.

Glidefeather followed the deputy into the camp, coughing a little at the scent.

Rabbitpaw looked up from his morning meal, still feeling hungry but knowing that the first half of his rabbit would've gone to someone that needed it too. "What is that stink?"

Plumdrop rolled her eyes at the apprentices, licking her chest and almost gagging as she realised how the stench had stuck. "It's stronger here," she mumbled to her patrol-mates, but realised that the smell was coming from specific cats.

Glidefeather nodded to his sister. "I don't know how much use it'll be to us, but it's on our territory so it's ours now."

"So did the chasm. I almost threw up." Hawkpaw flattened his ears and shook his head rapidly. "It was so gross."

Cloudedpool blinked and nodded to Plumdrop. "This is a little worrisome," she mewed.

"Maybe FireClan has their own chasm stinking up the territory?" Flamepaw mused.

Stagshade padded to Plumdrop, ears flattened as snowflakes drifted onto his back. "How was the patrol?" he asked awkwardly.

"We could use it to hunt," Kestrelskip suggested, "The prey near it won't be able to catch our scent through the egg smell."

"No, they were normal smelly at the gathering last night," Flamepaw mewed, "Unless they have a way to tone down their stench when they're away from their territory something has to be going on with them."

A long, hollow rumbling puts everyone on edge, kit, warrior, elders alike. The ground shakes, almost gently at first, before a booming rumble jolts the earth beneath your paws just as it had at the Gathering last night.
